Casey Anthony’s trial date delayed
A request by the defense to push Casey Anthony’s trial back from the scheduled start date in October was granted today by an Orlando judge. It is expected that the trial will be rescheduled for sometime next summer, but the date has not been set yet. A status hearing has been scheduled for Jan 21.
The judge also ruled that news organizations can argue to have the video of Casey in the jail reacting to her daughter’s body being found made public.
“The October 12 trial date would, with the death penalty, would virtually be impossible. So, I’ll go ahead and strike that October trial date and we’ll set this status slash pretrial in January,” said Judge Strickland.
One reason for the delay is Andrea Lyon’s teaching schedule, which WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says wouldn’t go over well with a lot of judges.”You cancel everything. You better be ready for trial. In the state system, we’re more flexible and especially in a case like this where it’s a capital case and someone’s life is on the line.” Sheaffer said that Judge Stan Strickland wouldn’t want to give the defense an argument they could use on appeal saying they weren’t ready when they had to go to trial. Lyon said she would be filing various motions after Labor Day.

We all knew the trial would be delayed–interesting though that Ms. Lyon’s teaching schedule is taking precedence over Casey’s murder trial.

Hi Mystery….we all knew it would be delayed, but I do think they’re stalling as long as possible to see what happens with the Bar investigation against Bozo…. They have to map their gameplan if he gets the boot, and the deep conditioning treatment for Lyons hair needs to seep for at least 9 months. She wants to be camera ready.
Hi Mystery and Ostella…the lion says she will have motions by Labor Day…WHEN IS THAT?
Will we hear ALL her motions prior to the 21st Jan 2010?
I do wish wordpress would bring back the real emoticons mrgreen is just soooo insipid now
Hugs from over the pond xxx

When WILL we hear what the bar has concluded????? They must be being verrryyy thorough.
Jill
Labor Day is September 7
G’Mornin everyone!! Mystery, I think the snail’s pace of the Bar investigation against Baez is a sign that there’s a lot of “meat” to the complaints. Supposedly only 10 percent of the complaints make it to this stage, and its still DRAGGING… That makes me think he’s in some deep, deep guano…
I wonder if they are stalling due to that. He had no tie, he was so quiet. I’m still waiting for their findings, and it sure seems to be taking a while. I do think there is a lot more to it. It also seems like Baez has sort of given control over to AL. Interesting………..
I read somewhere that they want to postpone the murder trial as they have a better chance of a death penalty conviction if she is already a convicted felon ie: the fraud charges. I bet she is sweating bullets….
Melanie–see my current post,

It talks about the possible reasons why the prosecution would want that conviction in the bag and why the defense would not.

I’m hoping you are right and Baez is definitely on his way out. We probably won’t have heard the last of him though. I imagine his “book” will be forthcoming.
Mystery, he’s workin on that book as we speak. Its called “The Big Engine That Couldn’t: When Dream Teams Fail.” Its taking up ALL his time lately. He’s furiously penning it by hand, beneath a single bulb in his basement. In his bathing suit.
