LE searches Caylee Anthony’s grandparents home again today

December 20, 2008

After investigators finished searching the site where Caylee’s remains were found, they got a new search warrant to collect more evidence at the Anthony home late this afternoon.

George and Cindy Anthony were at home when investigators arrived with the warrant, and a visibly upset George Anthony could be seen as they made their way inside.

“It’s never a good time for anyone who’s lost a granddaughter — obviously we’re going to treat them with respect,” Nieves said. “But, we have an investigation to conduct.”

The search warrant was based on evidence gathered the past few days from the area where Caylee was found. OCSO officially cleared the wooded area Saturday as investigators in 4 vans arrived at the Anthony home.  They blocked the street and strung yellow tape to keep back the onlookers.

1 hr and 45 min later,  they came out of the house with bags and boxes of unknown items.

Orange County sheriff’s Capt. Angelo Nieves would not identify what items were removed from the home, but said that “items of evidentiary value were found.”

I can’t believe they went back to the Anthonys and took even more stuff out of their house—What in the world could possibly be left???????  And what could they possibly be looking for?

I have a question about the book Caylee was reading during her Father’s Day visit with her great grandfather.

It’s been stated or suggested that the book is visible in one of LE’s crime photos released recently.

My question is this: if the book in the photo was the book Caylee was reading on Father’s Day, wouldn’t the book in the photo have been altered by weather? The book in the photo appears to be “brand new”.

Excellent thinking! I felt the same way! It dosent have to even be the same book. Any book would have been destroyed by the water. Looks like it was planted there!

Maybe the book and cross have something in common?

We discussed this on a previous post.

Several people said it was the kind of book that is hard and can be washed off. If the book was in the double bag the body was in, it could have survived. It could possibly have survived the water.

That book has plastic coated pages , in could handle the weather for months. A paperback book would have been destroyed…

I have no idea what they took today but my guess is they are putting the puzzle together big time and we will all Know in due time. I am thrilled they are continuing to do their job and i would say doing a really bang up good job too. The A’s may be upset they came back in today, but it is like they said, they have an investigation to do and a dead child to see she get’s justice. I believe the A’S Are next to be arrested so they better get the funeral done with and fast.

Chuck, I find that hard to believe. no book could withstand knee deep water for 3 months and if it was still in the plastic bag why, would they take it out and contaiminate the evidance? That book just might tell us a different story. Dont forget Tes also said that was muddy and well under water when they lost a 4 wheeler. Noway that book could withstand all that weather Looks new.

It is also very possible the book stayed inside the doubled garbage bag until recently and there were not rains to get it wet and now it has been found.

I grew up in a small town about 45 miles from Orlando. During a hurricane when I was 6, a plastic-coated book of mine survived under water for some time without damage, and it wasn’t double-bagged in strong garbage bags. Also, a few years ago my father drove for 8 hours with suitcases wrapped in garbage bags and placed in the uncovered back of his pick-up truck – in a torrential downpour all the way – and the suitcases were dry as a bone when he got to his destination. It seems to me if garbage bags could do that, they could protect the book for several months underwater.

I have such a great respect and admiration for the way LE are continuing to do their job. And imo, doing it very well. Alot of mud has been slung their way, yet they keep on working the case, without ever losing sight of what is important here. I do feel this book is going to be a major peice of evidence. I seem to remember Casey giving someone a few little details in regard to the story Casey was reading during the fictional phone call from Caylee. Does anyone remember this? Or know where i can find it?

the book could survive it has water proof plastic coated pages…The book does not look brand new, it shows some wear from the weather..I have the same type of book for my kid, it was outside for a month or two, and was only a little wrinkled, it looked good not damaged..

Why would Casey bury Caylee with the book, this is self destructive behavior? I don’t see why she wouldn’t drive further to bury the body, why just toss the body not far from the street? The whole thing seems bizarre to say the least. It’s pretty hard to believe the police didn’t see this bag back in August, it wasn’t that far from the road. I don’t see why the meter reader didn’t open the bag if he was so concerned.

I don’t see how Casey is going to get off from this. Is she trying to claim the Nanny stole her child and car too. It takes awhile I would think for a body to start to smell, it seems as though Casey just drove around and around with a dead body in her car. She obvioulsy smelled the smell too. She fought her Dad, George, about letting him get something out of the trunk of the car.

For those of you not familar with the History of the Orange County Sherrif’s office let me inform you of a few things from the past that are still going on in the department. 1) The Department has had not one, not two, but three “majors” removed by Florida Department of Law Enforcement and FBI probes, charges, and convictions in the past 20 years. The department has had repeated investigations bungled during the same time period by having “investigators” who turned out to be untrained. (no formal training of any kind!) The county has repeatedly charged individuals who later got off because the arresting officers had inherent conflicts of interest with the case.

In this case I will say a few specifics that the defense team will have a field day with. 1) Cavader dogs detect a scent in the trunk of a car that had already been impounded for 5 days! Not before it was impounded! The same dogs can’t pick up a scent in the vincinty where the boday was recoved in 2 feet of water after searching it three times. Keep in mind that trained “scent” dogs have picked up 2 pounds of cocaine in 40,000 gallons of gasoline!!!

Here is one for you. Take a pizza and set it a car trunk and leave it for 30 days when the average temperature is 94 degrees f, and the humidity is above 75% relative. The stench is so bad for about three months you can’t stand to get in the car. (I actually know a few young guys who have done this and sold the cars because they couldn’t get past the stink left!) Or better yet take a pound of frozan ground turkey and do the same thing. The vehicle will smell for 4 or 5 months, and dogs will go ape around it! Even trained dogs!

As for the book in the water, if the water is deep enough to cover the smell of the rotting flesh and the body is in the bag with the book, the book would be covered with decaying human flesh! You think water can destroy something, look at what decaying protein does!

The meter reader finds the same “bag” four times and trained LE officers can’t?!! What is wrong with this picture?

Now I’m not saying Casey didn’t do it, but I sure as the earth rotates around the sun wouldn’t say there isn’t some doubt in my mind that someone could have. And that doubt has reason.

Melissa, I agree with you. From our standpoint it’s hard to put certain pieces of the puzzle together, but I feel from day one the police have been on this case non stop. The baffling thing is that 3rd phone call Mr. Kronk made to police in August. I heard Mike Brooks on NG state that he met the police officer out at the site and Mike told Nancy that he wants to know, if the two met in person, did the meter reader go into the woods with the cop and show him the bag?? The whole instance surrounding the crime scene is strange. If this guy was so hard pressed and bothered to call authorities 3 times in one week, why didn’t he physically show the cop the bag?? Or did he? Did the cop not see it and leave? I know there was a snake in the woods but come on. A police officer not following 100% through on this is way too strange. Hopefully LE knows something more to this and maybe we are being led on. Is it a tactic to get Casey to confess? I don’t know how LE works. I just find the whole thing strange. I could speculate for hours and come up with 100 scenerios, I just don’t know.
As for that book? It is possible to survive weather, so maybe LE will update us on that later. I don’t know why Casey chose to leave the items she did. The second search of A’s home is incredible. Both times they said they found significant things. They already had a good case to convict Casey, I can only imagine what they have found now. I know they desperately want to figure out exactly what took place all those months. Does anyone think that G & C knew Caylee was in that location? They wouldn’t have been THAT cold and callous to leave her laying in the woods right? I am just wondering if LE thinks some of the items at the crime scene were placed there after the fact and since Casey has been in jail, someone else might be involve?? Whacky thought but just a thought.

Eb jeb, I see where you are coming from. The defense will use this type of info as a way to sway the jury, no doubt about it. BUT, the part about your post that I can’t agree with is the rotting pizza. I am not saying that I am right and you are wrong. I just can’t believe that someone could mistake human decomp and rotted pizza as one in the same. Experts have been saying that the smell is like no other. I know the dogs can be in question but the dogs are trained to hit on human decomp and not food decomp. Also, DNA doesn’t lie, you can say all you want about pizza but the DNA showed an Anthony family member was dead in that trunk. According to reports there was no pizza in the trunk. The cadaver dogs did get hits in the Anthony back yard. They did not, according to LE get hits in the crime scene location. That I will agree with you, is strange, but can you compare cadaver dogs to drug sniffing dogs?. Someone else could be involved, maybe her body was placed there after Casey was imprisoned but LE says they feel she was there shortly after death. Casey wasn’t in jail til at least a month after she died. Casey was telling her friends that her car smelled before it was left at the Amscot. I didn’t know of the dogs not hitting on the car. When were the dogs near the car before it was impounded?? The police weren’t called in until the day Cindy found the car at the impoundment. Me confused:/
I don’t know how the book would be covered with decaying flesh. Her bones were not covered in flesh. She was a tiny person, not that much flesh involved here. Also, since I don’t know your background in cadaver dogs, I have heard from several professionals that cadaver dogs are trained to detect cadavers only. They will not signal a hit if it is ground turkey. Besides, it still doesn’t answer all the crazy questions about Casey. If someone else did it, why didn’t she seem to give a rats behind about her child??

Wondering if anybody else has thought that perhaps duct tape was used to cover the orifices of little Caylee’s face with duct tape to keep maggots from coming out, while transferring her little body from point A to point B.

Cynzfree;Honestly I wondered the same thing,or to keep bugs and other insects from getting in her mouth.Only I didnt want to say it ..terrible thought either way.

  21. December 21, 2008 4:01 pm

I believe that Casey dropped Caylee’s body exactly where they found it. Even though she was only 2 years old, a dead body is very heavy. Remember George was getting suspicious, and she got nervous so she dumped it in fear she would be caught and she did not want to be seen, if she went further into the wooded area, someone might have seen her.

They found Caylee’s dead hair in Casey’s car trunk. Who else had excess to her car, besides her family.

I think you are all thinking too deeply. She did it, she knows it and she right now is more concerned of getting off the murder charge. Remember she has known all a long that Caylee was dead, because she did it. She has never shown any remorse and she will not ever, she would like to get out of jail and party. (what she wanted to do in the first place).

As far as the meter reader, he found a bag, got suspicious, reported it 3 times, nothing happened and finally just about handed it over to the cops and fbi. I do not think he had anything to do with it. He was a citizen getting involved. Now that is all done with, Case remains that Casey still did it. I hope she does not get off the murder charge, because Caylee can’t die in vein.

My thoughts and prayers go out the the family.

Cynzfree, that’s really gross! I’ll just take your word for it that it might be a consideration…

Ebjeb, I’m with Pak31, I appreciate the info regarding past performance of the local law enforcement, but I think you’re stretching a point with the pizza. A local tv news program performed not 1 but 2 different pizza experiments to settle the question. The first one was criticized by the Anthonys, since they suggested that the presence of a bottle of laundry detergent might have affected the chemical reactions, and also exposure to flies, etc. So they tried it again with a Domino’s meatsa pizza, a bottle of laundry detergent, and opening the trunk every day to admit possible flies, etc. Results were the same. Smelled like pizza, not like human flesh…

Also, I recall hearing that cadaver dogs did hit on the trunk of the car. However, I have also read that cadaver dogs are much less reliable when there is no cadaver… But, then, Casey herself commented on the foul smell in her car and suggested her dad had run over some squirrels, I think she would have known if the smell was from garbage she left in the trunk.

Sure, there’s some wiggle room in the prevailing theory, but if Casey didn’t do it herself, then why wait 31 days, why go and party hearty when you ought to have been searching for your daughter, why tell so many ludicrous lies to investigators??? If she didn’t do it, it must be that one of her cop boyfriends did it—? But then, why not come clean with the FBI? I presume the FBI could be trusted to investigate the local police if they were accused?

Much as I would have liked to read about a happy ending to this, where Casey and all the Anthonys turn out to be innocent, it doesn’t look likely…

The minute I heard her speak, and saw her demeaner, the first thing I thought of was Jeffery MacDonald. The Green Beret who killed his pregnant wife, and two young daughters. It’s the exact same thing. They’ve built themselves up in their own mind (She, looking for a month on her own, contempt for everyone else) (He,made himself out to be a model husband, he was a total loser as husband, contempt for everyone else) once their deed was done, to them, it’s over. They can’t understand the fuss. It’s just a nuisance. Kids gone. Family’s gone. Nothing can be done now, let’s get on with life. You can tell the difference. This is no Andrea yates. this is not post partum depression.

Cayee should be hung in the town square , or have the puplic stone her to death , leathal injection is like putting a dog to sleep , if we went back to the old days of pushishment , hangins , for the public to view or stoned to death , I believe crime would drop @ least 75 %
The chair, Gas., or let.injection is the easy way out, and put a camera in her cell so we can watch what ever it is she is doing , I read an articloe today , that she may be pregnant ,

If this is true , kill her now , she is fricken crazy , and her parents want immunity , why , they knew all along, or why would they wnt immumity, Dad was acop , he knew how to clean up a crime scene, and these ppl who work in our jails , are not on the up and up either , I hope to god she is NOT pregnant, GOD BLESS CAYLEE , WHO NOW WALKS WITH THE LORD
