Sleazy promotions company suspends production of the “Caylee Sunshine” doll

January 27, 2009

The Jacksonville promotions company that specialized in creating gift items from current news stories has suspended it’s plans to sell the Caylee Sunshine doll.  (What about the other items they were selling?  Were they suspended too???)

Jaime Salcedo, president of Showbiz Promotions said in a press release:

“It was our intention to begin the sale of the Sunshine Caylee Doll at 12:00 p.m. January 27, 2009. As we mentioned to the media in our press release it was very important that we allow the press to present our idea to the public first, in an effort to measure the reaction to our fund raising efforts. As the story developed we also announced that we would be donating 100% of the profits to charity. However, after reviewing the response to our media introduction of the Sunshine Caylee Doll and listening to the advice of the general public. We feel that is it best to suspend the launch of The Sunshine Caylee Doll.”While we still feel it is important to raise awareness and raise money to help stop this type of crime from being committed. We feel we can be more effective using more traditional methods.”We would like to (thank) everyone who made comments or called us to express their opinion.”

On Monday, the company listed the doll on its Web site for about $30.The doll has blond hair, stands 18 inches tall and wears a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The company said it purposely did not create the doll in Caylee’s likeness. The doll plays the song “You Are My Sunshine” when you push its belly button, a song that Caylee was seen singing on a home video released shortly after she was declared missing.

I imagine Mr. Salcedo had a flood of emails and phone calls.  I hope he already manufactured a ton of those dolls and that he loses his shirt on this little venture.  No one should be profiting from the death of Caylee Anthony.

Don’t let Salcedo try to fool you—100% of the profits to charity????? There was NO mention of a charity donation in any form on his website–Then it changed to  $3.00 to charity–then on Nancy Grace last night it was an undetermined amount to charity, and he couldn’t name any organizations he would be donating to—Now, today, AFTER he announced he wouldn’t be selling the dolls at all, he’s saying–Gee, we WERE gonna donate 100% of our profits to charity.  Just garbage!

I imagine he will not be the only carnival barker to try and make a few bucks on this tragedy. (and I’m not convinced that some of the principal players in this case were not involved)  The public will have to continue to be vigilante and stamp out these fires as they crop up.  I repeat– No one should be making money from the murder of Caylee–NO ONE!

An aside: Anyone that would have been stupid enough to buy this doll or other “souvenirs” from this company would have probably lost their money.  A quick google of Show Biz Promotions in Jacksonville pulled up several complaints against them.  http://www.ripoffreports.com pulled up several.  Just put in the name of the company.  Another one was http://www.complaintsboard.com.  An unsavory organization all the way around.

Ha! You (and the other bloggers) made a difference! That’s a benefit of e-mail, it’s so much easier than snail mail, people are much more likely to fire off an e-mail and make the voice of the public heard.

Hooray for us! Power to the people!

We did it!!! 🙂 This is exactly what our country needs more of…people standing up for what is right. I spent many this morning sending emails to every news station, and the president. I did not know if anyone would even bother to pass them along to right people or even read them, but I felt I had to do something. Appears I am not the only one . 🙂 Yes, Power to the people!!!!

I’m so glad public outcry forced this company to rethink the doll’s release. I mean, really. Murdered child dolls? What were they going to do as a follow-up, a Jon Benet Ramsey doll? Sheesh.

I am so glad that the doll will not be sold..I also hope he loses his butt on the deal..and is stuck with hundreds of dolls that were ready for sale.
I;m with you Mystery..someone else is behind this someone in the Anthony camp?? As I said the only one that could sell the rights to Caylee’s name would be KC. I doubt they would try selling the doll without that consent..he may be somewhat of a crook but not stupid.JMO.

Friendlymom–You are so right! A large group of mothers (and fathers!!) and grandparents are a force to be reckoned with!

Green WAS his color, Simply Me! Now he’s just seeing RED! (Red as “in the red” and red as in “egg on his face”

Small One–I didn’t follow the Jon Benet Ramsey case as closely as this one so don’t know how bad it got–but I don’t think it was the circus Caylee’s case has become?

Mand–I think topcat said it–If Baez doesn’t protest loudly about this over the next few days, we can safely assume he and KC are involed.

    Paul–sometimes you just nail it!!

Mystery, the Jonbenet case was an equally appaling circus. Morgue workers stole pictures from the autopsy and sold them to the Globe tabloid. And even worse, they were printed…
I’m really glad to see this sleazy plan nipped in the bud. My faith in humanity is somewhat restored. But sadly I have a feeling it will soon be tested again…

The Jacksonville Promoption Company should be SUED to the fullest by the law, and put out of business.. It is all about making money and fame, they could care less about the dead girl Caylee, it is all about them and making money and pubility..

I think so to Mystery ..Top Cat hit the nail on the head..now we wait and see if Dumbo files a law suite..well for that matter if G&C file a suite..they wouldn’t do so if KC and Dumbo were a part of it.

ostella–that is appalling! I had no idea. No wonder the prosecution has been so careful about what Baez can see from the crime scene and who else can look at it.

Chuck, the only way they could be sued is if they didn’t license. At least that’s my understanding.

I’m not holdin’ my breath here, Mand.

If I’m not mistaken, the only way casey cannot profit from this crime is if there’s a civil motion filed against her in court specifically to block her from selling murderabilia, doing interviews, etc…usually the victim’s family members immediately file that against a defendant, but under these circumstances…the crime seems to be all in the family, so to speak.

I can’t shake the feeling that something really explosive is gonna come out this week… George goes into duck and cover mode while LE turns up the heat on Lee…meethinx the clan Anthony knows trouble is a-brewin…

Its like this, dude says 100% of the profits will go to charity…. Well he still makes money on it, he will get paid an hourly wage based on time put into it and cost to make the dolls and travel expense and a christmas bonus and the equipment he buys (computers ect) advertising cost ect ect ect.

Look the scum will get money, if anyone believes he wont make a dime them there blind because he is a liar.

I was dealing with a company I donated our product to for a fund raiser type deal and after being involved with that I have decided to just donate money to a charity instead, it all boils down to them making a profit and thereas millions of ways they can keep money and not call it profit, (Oh gotta get a company car)

Hes a leach and should be delt with as such.

You are so right, Mike. And this guy didn’t say he was donating anything in the beginning. Now we’re hearing that he hasn’t really pulled the dolls–He’s just going to wait a while to do it. Really disgusting.

Ostella–I think I agree with you. This is typical of what has happened in this case in the past. Something big is going down again.

Its just getting ridiculous already, poor Caylee, there trying to profit because this case is just sparking so much attention, as long as people stay interested there will be more drama coming. Its like a real life soap opera, what going to happen next? Too much craziness.

I agree Starlie–It’s just unbelievable. I believe something is about to happen–something big–this is what they have done in the past just before the release of some pertinent information.

Well, Dude lied, after talking with the Legal Dept. of Missing and
Expl. Children asking if they received 5000 Dollars, they said NO AND WE WOULD NOT TAKE ANY MONEY FROM HIM.
Today he has a different website, actually he changed it twice.
