Todd Black, Jose Baez PR man in Casey Anthony case used a bogus name!

January 30, 2009

Todd Black, the guy that caused the Florida Bar investigation into Casey Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, has admitted his name isn’t really Todd Black!   A spokesperson  for him admitted to the Orlando Sentinel, there is no Todd Black–but who he was they weren’t willing to say!

“In general we can tell you that it’s been standard procedure for many years to have our company’s story reps utilize abbreviated names for security purposes, most especially now with the Casey Anthony Case that is overrun with hostile attitudes and serious threats that have been generated by negative media coverage,” an e-mail from his  spokesperson stated.

Mr. Black has acted as Jose Baez spokesman through a company called Press Corps Media. Information about this company, previous clients, and colleagues of Black have not been attainable.  Black  will not take part in face to face  interviews and faxed most of his news releases, These releases appear to be written on a typewriter. He has refused to submit a picture of himself or to be photographed. It’s unclear where he lives or works.   Black said in a telephone interview this morning that it is an “abbreviated” last name he’s used professionally..

The Public Relations Society of America’s code of ethics lists “honesty” as one of its professional values, and states members must “be honest and accurate in all communications,” and “avoid deceptive practices. It is not typical for a spokesperson to use a fake name and to use a fake identity raises serious ethical issues.

“To use a fictitious name flies in the face of creating a trusting and ethical relationship with the media,” said Mackenzie, author of Courting the Media: Public Relations for the Accused and the Accuser. “And for anybody in the media, frankly, who covers the statements released knowing this person’s rather charlatan behavior, I consider that also to be unethical.”

One of the letters submitted to the Bar in the invetigation of Baez was from Press Corps Media’s president, Peter Tillman.  Both Tillman and Timothy Chinaris, an attorney representing Baez in the inquiry, stated that Press Corps Media was retained by a Connecticut family. Chinaris said his client had not paid and will not pay “any part” of Press Corps Media’s fees or expenses, and he did not know or talk with anyone from the media company before it was retained.

The Sentinel attempted to contact Tillman by leaving a voice-mail message at the telephone number provided on the letterhead, but Black returned the phone call.

“He’s not interested in discussing anything with you,” Black said of Tillman.

Black wouldn’t say who the Connecticut family is and when pressed for information about Press Corps Media and its parent company, Arrested Media, he said, “You guys are going to waste your time creating whatever story you want to create.”

Excuse my french, but WTF???? Can this case get any stranger–or sleazier??  First of all, why would Baez use a spokesperson (someone that would be representing HIS law firm) he didn’t first check out??  Are we supposed to believe he got a random phone call from some guy who said his name was Todd Black working for some company he wasn’t familiar with and he just said, “Yeah, man!  Thanks!  You can speak for me!!”  (my words not Baez’)  I’m sorry but I just don’t believe it. I don’t believe he would risk his firm’s reputation by using someone in such a high-profile role without knowing who he was and who he represented.  Next he’ll be telling us the family in Connecticut that paid the PR firm did so annonymously.  Give me a break.

Nothing surprises me anymore Mystery. It just saddens me that so much garbage continues to be thrown on Caylee’s remains. It is supposed to be about her, but so many people have turned it into an opportunity at “15 minutes of fame”. I have never seen such selfish, smut filled actions in a murder case before. My God, if one didn’t know any better, they might think they were watching a campaign trail; everyone begging for votes. It just keeps me pissed off.

By the way Mystery, thanks for keeping us informed. You and Niecey do a wonderful job. You should both try for jobs at your local newspaper. You would be well recepted.

Mystery I agee 100% Most people that I have heard that use a fake name are either big superstars or crooks! Todd Black falls into only one of these!

I don’t recall ever seeing Todd Black – has anyone? This case always leaves me scratching my head and sputtering. There have been many horrible crimes in the past and even recently but this case attracts every despicable and unsavory creature imagineable. Even Linda Baden seems so different from her husband, who seems honest. If Todd Black has never been seen could his real name be Jose Baez. Also, on another blog, someone wrote that they were watching the video from this morning on WFTV and at the end, when the screen went blank, the audio was still on. Two people could be heard talking and saying Casey is guilty. When I looked it up the video is on line but no audio. I don’t live in Florida but it’s starting to make me mad thinking of all the money this case is costing tax payers just because these people are so uncooperative. One more thing, I have a soft spot for Jesse Grund and hate to see him dragged into this again. He should thank God he got away from this woman (and she is a woman and not a child).

I feel for Jesse too. I feel he has a good heart, and was just another victim. You are right when saying he is lucky to have gotten away from Crazy Casey, and not a minute too soon. Why do I feel he does not feel this way……..I would bet he wished he had been around long enough to have prevented this.

If this sort of thing continues can’t the court or someone reprimand Dumbo…would it have to be the bar??
This makes no sense..isn’t it on tape that Dumbo said Black was employed by him??

This makes my head spin..where are all these sleaze bags coming from..they all seem to have some link to Dumbo..He may not have broken any law..but he sure is in the gray area..he has not one tad of professional manner about..more like a con artist.

With the economic crisis going on it seems as though every sociopathic financial wiz is being exposed including all the ceo’s of major corporations. In the Casey Anthony case, the same thing. I also think Baez is a con artist and they are all opportunists and my question is – how did this all come about? Who opened the door and invited all these kooks in?

Sleaze attracts sleaze. Baez, in my mind, if he had any ethics whatsoever would have recused himself for lack of experience when he realized what a high profile case he had stumbled into. He hasn’t done that. Instead he’s fumbled along, making huge mistakes as he goes.

Too bad for Casey…. 🙂 He is self-assured to say the least. However, who else could Casey afford??? And good, reputible attorneys are not going to touch a high profile case they KNOW they cannot win!!!

    Too weird.

Ok, it’s not all that unusual for someone with a name difficult to pronounce, or that has unpopular ethnic overtones to shorten or change the name somewhat just to make it easier and more comfortable for everyone.

Examples: you might choose to change Castro to Castor, or Blagovech to Black, or Hitler to Hiller, or Teodoro Negro to Todd Black…

But, then you would normally have no qualms about giving the full and proper name to explain why you are using the shortened version, or if you really never wanted to be known as Ms. Phatazz, well, you’d spend the time and money to have it legally changed to Ms. Phazzat, or whatever.

Also, how does a PR company expect to retain any kind of credibility if they announce that it is their policy not to use their right names???!!!

With Dumbo’s lack of experience and his constant mistakes..his filing of frivolous motions ..that by the way is costing the county money..why can’t he be removed from the case?

The attorney’s that are appearing on the news shows are saying how he is handling this case is all wrong..he gets nothing constructive done..he runs around in circles filing motion after motion..most are not filed or written properly..the man is a disaster..
He makes a mockery of the justice system..he needs to be stopped..tossed out on his ..FAT A$$..

It does seem those Pop Tarts and bon bons have gone to her waist line. Guess since she hasn’t been doing the mattress mambo and stripper pole workouts her girly figure is becoming a distant memory. Ahhhhhhh the good old days???

I don’t think credibility is something they’re too worried about–I’m interested in what family in Connecticut is paying this fly by night outfit.

I wonder if down the road–after it’s all said and done, Casey will say she didn’t receive competent council and get a re-trial–is that possible?

I found a great article on the Scared Monkeys website about this “Todd Black” character. I can’t post the link cuz I’m a little computer challenged (sorry ladies) 😦 It was written by Blink 34 (a helluva sleuth) and is REALLY interesting! Check it out!

Gil Cabot is indeed a crook and a fabricator. I am familiar with him because I had a femaile client in the entertainment industry that he preyed on for 10 years, stalking, threatening her and suing her and dragging her to court for years. That’s how the creep makes a living. He is known for typing false documents and creating whatever his deceitful evil mind wants to fabricate. He is certainly a weasel and probably saw this high profile case and decided to fabricate the story about a Connecticut family paying the PR bill so that he can represent Jose Biaz and insert himself into this 3 ring circus. The whole thing reeks of Gil Cabot and his schemes. I think Jose Biaz is so far out of his league with this case and is basking in the media and celebrity attention he is getting. He does not appear to a very smart guy. He was probably so flattered that a so called “PR firm” contacted him and wanted to represent him. What a sad, sad deal this entire case is and a tiny little precious girl is dead and that is the last thing on any of these idiots’ minds.
