Jose Baez says “forces out to get” Casey Anthony

April 14, 2009

baez-with-eyebrow-raised1Jose Baez called the state’s decision to seek the death penalty against his client a “sad day for justice”.

Baez, a strong opponent of the death penalty,  went to see Casey late last night and then spoke with Local 6 News.  He said the state’s announcement was not a surprise to Casey Anthony.

“She was fully aware that this was a strong possibility. She’s aware of the forces that are out to get her.  If they think that this is going to make her plea, they’re sadly mistaken,” he said. ” They’ve been trying to intimidate Casey Anthony from day 1 and it didn’t work then, and it’s not going to work now.”

Cheney Mason, a well- known defense attorney said the state is taking a real chance here, and will have to prove a lot. “They don’t know the cause of death. They don’t know when the death was caused. They don’t know who caused the death. They don’t know how it happened. This is a far reach. They better have something real strong in their bag of tricks,” said Mason.  He also said this will probably delay the trial and it would be amazing if it took place in the next 1  1/2 — 2 years.

Baez said, “Will it affect the trial? Yes, it may delay it. It certainly will make the costs to the taxpayers to the state of Florida at least triple.”

Baez is not qualified to be the lead counsel on a death-penalty case, but he says, “It changes absolutely nothing. For people to be out there saying I’m going to be off the case or I’m going to be in the background, they really don’t know what they’re talking about,”

Casey Anthony currently has 8 attorneys that the public has been made aware of–3 of them are death-penalty qualified. The jury will now also have to be death-penalty qualified (they will be asked if they could vote for the death penalty).   There are 3 more attorneys working behind the scenes for the defense that are also death-penalty qualified.

Baez claims that Casey was offered a plea deal early on, but she turned it down saying she was not guilty.  It is not known if the prosecution will put another deal on the table.

read it below:

watch it here:

Well, all I can say is the arrogance of Baez will be his undoing.  It’s absolutely ridiculous to me for him to say there are “forces out to get Casey Anthony.”

This whole thing reminds me of the story of David and Goliath–Baez can take his 12 hot-shot attorneys and stuff em’ up his butt, and it’s still not gonna do Casey Anthony a bit of good.  The prosecution team may not have the defense’s “bulk”, but those dedicated men and women have been doing their due diligence in this case–plodding along, uncovering the facts, dotting their i’s and crossing their t’s.  They’ve ignored the rantings and ravings of a veritable madwoman and her rag tag circus and kept their eyes focused on the prize–JUSTICE FOR CAYLEE ANTHONY.

At least that’s how I hope it will play out–that’s how I believe it will play out.  Some “Force” greater than Baez and his “elite-ist defense team led to the discovery of that broken little body–and that was against all odds.   I have to believe that same “Force” will lead to the punishment of her murderer.  If that’s the “Force” Baez is talking about, then yes, I guess I would agree that ” a force is out to get her—” and, in the end,  it WILL!

I can tell Baez is not a good attorney, if he was he would be seeking a deal. He knows what his client has done and the two of them cannot bull sh## there way out of it. I hope she doesn’t take a deal, and the jury finds her guilty. That”s what Caylee deserves!!!!!!!!!!!!!

laura–Baez should step back and take a long hard look at the evidence and then THINK about what is really best for his client. If the prosecution puts a deal back on the table he should advise her on what is right for her–not what is right for movie and book deals. But, I doubt he does that.

Yaaaaaaaaay!!! I agree completely. Bill Sheaffer is saying that he believes all or most of the forensics are back. The prosecution has to take it to the attorney general and he makes the final decision. The decision was made and I’m thinking they have her dead to right, in spite of what the circus wants us to believe. LKB had a nasty blow to her career yesterday, when the trial she botched up finally came to guilty of murder in the second degree for ole Phil, so I’m not too worried. Dr. Lee was in on that one too. They both failed miserably. I wonder how Bozo’s investigation is going for his something other than calling 911 instruction???

niecey—I read what Bill Shaeffer said as well and I hope he’s right. I can’t imagine the prosecution would call for the death penalty without being pretty sure of themselves and the evidence they have.

If Linda Baden was half the attorney her publicist would have us believe, she would be the attorney general! LOL Same goes for Dr. Lee.

Bozo Biaz, There are NO forces out their to get Crazy Casey Anthony..Crazy Casey made her own destiny by killing her beautiful little daughter Caylee and then dumping her in the woods like garbage..The only force out their, is the force to give poor little two year old Caylee justice, in world full of people that lie and murder like (Casey Anthony)…And Low life lawyers like (Jose Bozo Biaz)..Thank God for justice….

chuck—You are so right. Casey did this to herself! Period.

What a tool. He must really be braindamaged if he thinks he’s still gonna be lead chair in all this. I wish Kathi Belich was there to ask him what law school he went to; he’s NOT qualified to try a DP case under the law…and for him to blame the STATE for the cost of a trial?!?! Has he lost his mind? All he has to do is plea to save the taxpayers millions; its entirely on him at this point…

ostella–Exactly! None of this is the prosecution’s fault. The person at fault is Casey Anthony–She could end this today–she could have ended it the day her mother dragged her home. the cost to the taxpayer is directly on her head and Baez’ for not advising her properly.

Forces are out to get Casey Anthony according to Baez and Casey, yeah right!

We believe anything those two are saying, how stupid do they think the Public is?
There might be some who will buy that BS which is being fed to the Public
by the Defense and Casey, I am not One of Them.

Casey Anthony murdered her own Child, there is no Doubt in my Mind!
There is no other Person out there who committed that heinous Crime.
That Privilege is all Casey’s, she can take all the Credit for her Daughter’s Death!
Just because there is no Video showing Casey A. murdering her Child, doesn’t mean she didn’t do it.
I would think the State has more than enough Evidence to present a solid Case,
despite what the Defense trying to make every one believe.
    Myself I can wait.
Casey isn’t going anywhere. Let her enjoy her time in her Cell in Jail. It doesn’t bother me how long it will take till the Trial starts.
She is the one has to wait in Jail who knows for how long. I hope she enjoys playing the Victim in her distorted Mind and the Fantasy World she lives in, thinking it’s all about her.
Reality Check, it is all about Caylee and has been from the Beginning!

Hilde—Apparently they think we be reeeaaaal stupid! I can wait too Hilde—- and I think the prosecution has all it’s ducks in a row now. Baez, on the other hand, appears to still be fishing for suspects to blame.

Wouldn’t it be in his best interest to not ASSume that the prosecution is going to offer another plea deal? Perhaps they really do believe she is guilty and deserves to die, like most of us do.

He can talk in circles all he wants but he is going to really have a problem at trial now that he had insisted that she is not guilty over and over. Now he has to prove that she is innocent instead of a lesser charge. right?

He can still think he is running the show and his little comment about it costing the taxpayers more money was stupid. In this case I don’t think the taxpayers mind. But if he does not get her acquitted, he is going to lose everything he may have. Isn’t working pro bono the same as not getting paid unless he wind the acquittal?

I am not confident in the defense at all and no matter how many big names you throw in there the bottom line is the jury has to believe she is innocent… Find me one person who can without a doubt say that she is 100% innocent and I will offer them some waterfront property in the desert….

halfpint–I think he is ASSuming a lot, too. I hope they don’t offer her a deal. Let her come whining to them instead. Of course, Baez won’t allow that. He is looking forward to showing off his lawyer-ness in court! Waiting for his close-up–That can only happen if they go to court.

  12. April 14, 2009 1:33 pm

Its going to cost Florida taxpayers triple? Now who is tainting the jury pool Baez? Let’s just announce over the news that Florida will have to more for my clients trial. How about this one Jose, let’s just fry her murdering arse and be done with it!!!

Andrea—I was just sitting here thinking, sooooo—because it’s going to cost triple, that means they shouldn’t seek the right punishment for the crime? It should be a lesser punishment because that would be cheaper???

  13. April 14, 2009 1:39 pm

I wonder how Oprah sleeps at night. Knowing that she is going to pay the parents of this scumbag for a “blockbuster interview” only to have them take that money and give it to Baez to pay for said scumbags defense. I for one won’t tune in.

Clarissa—I doubt Oprah has looked that deeply into this case. She probably doesn’t have a clue and could care less.

  14. April 14, 2009 1:48 pm

Hilde, sometimes I think that Casey doesn’t even mind being in jail. She’s very lazy and probably does alot of living in her mind. Can someone tell me, with the death penalty back on does that mean at the very least she will get life in prison?

paula–that would be my understanding–without the possibility of parole. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

  18. niecey456 permalink
    April 14, 2009 2:32 pm

She will do life or at least most of it. It depends on if Bozo ever does go for a deal and I think if he does it would only be because they have her dead to right, and no one else. I don’t think she will get less than 30 or 40 years.

niecey–I stand corrected! I thought it would be life without the possibility of parole. She could get life or a lesser charge but she could also go free! Let’s not forget they could also find her not guilty. THAT’s the scary part. From what I’ve just been reading, the majority of cases where the death penalty is on the table, the attorney bargains it down with the prosecution.

Casey and her parents have made quite a bit of money selling photos and videos of Caylee. But all those photos have made everyone fall in love with this little girl thereby, making Casey and her parents even more despised. The “forces” that are going to get her are the Anthonys themselves. They think they’re so clever but they shoot themselves in the foot – all the time. It’s because of them that this case has gotten so much attention. In a “backwards” kinda way they are helping get justice for Caylee. Because if they didn’t sell everything they could get their hands on and blab their mouths every chance they got, we (the public) would be in the dark about alot of things

    How right you are, Paula.

By Baez making that statement shows where his mind is. And was that a threat to the state and the people of the state to go up in arms to take the death penalty back off because its going to cost them more? The only cost here was the life of a sweet innocent baby girl Caylee.

LVSusie—That’s what gets me–I guess the prosecution should just lower the punishment so it won’t be as expensive.

I agree with Itsamystery that the prosecution have been crossing their
    t’s and dotting their i’s.
But I think not only is the prosecution crossing t’s and dotting i’s, but I feel there are other individuals and organizations throwing the proscecution some advice also, that there’s good people(good forces) trying to help as well; such as FBI, also LE people from other cities who have a lot of experience with high-profile cases, maybe lawyers.
So I too am not worried about Defense stooges trying to spin the standard BS that I’ve heard hundreds of times before.

LosAngeles–I agree with you. There are lots of people working in tandem on this case with no other purpose than to find justice for Caylee Anthony. The outcome of this thing will not affect their paychecks or make them stars. They have no other motive than finding the truth.

Casey definitely minds being in jail.
No cell phones. No texting. she used to be on phone or texting 24/7 according to docs.
    No hanging out with friends.
No partying at nightclubs, concerts, or anywhere. That’s all she ever did.
No shopping. She used to shop all the time. For not having a job she sure did a lot of shopping.
No going to beach. No enjoying of sunshine. No sun tan(Oh, no!)
Jail only serves crappy, weight-gaining food plus no activity = fatter, fatter, and even fatter. Mommy and Daddy not paying for her healthy food any more.
Even if KC orders special snacks from her special account, it’s still
crappy junk food, except better tasting junk food.
    No trolling after guys.
When she wasn’t in jail, Casey always did A LOT of activities. It’s just that the activities she did served no useful purpose, kind of like supposedly ambitious people who are involved in a lot of activities but they are useless activities and serve no purpose.

Wow! What a bleak picture you’re painting LosAngeles! I hope she is bored beyond words–and lonely—let’s not forget what a social butterfly she was.

I would say Bozo Baez is about 5’8” of pure Bologna. I thought he could not get dumber but i have been proven wrong. What makes him think the State has any interest in offering snothead casey a plea deal in the first place? Seems Bozo most likely has been watching Nancy Grace. Casey could not have picked a dumber lawyer if she tried, as this Bozo, has totally all by HIMSELF, put his client in a box and closed the lid tight by saying she will not accept any plea deal. With him for a lawyer who could possibly think the State is snothead’s enemy. Lee and LKB are also not the smartest knives in the drawer either so, sorry snothead, your out of luck this time.

Yeah knight Owl, I couldn’t have picked a more perfect lawyer for Casey myself! And doesn’t she just deserve him?????? It’s those forces–

Wow, was just reading the San Francisco news and comments regarding the Cantu case and found this:

“…that profilers know when a woman has murdered a child. The child is symbolically returned to the womb. Often water is involved, as well as some container the child is stuffed into a container of sorts (usually a plastic bag)

I’ve not heard that before, albeit it makes complete sense.

In the brief moments after reading this “tell” for profilers it immediately made me think of Casey’s triple sack wrap of Caylee who ended up floating in the hurricane’s waters

. . . several cases came to mind with women killing kids and yep, there was water.. am terrible with names but Susan Smith comes to mind, drowned kids in lake strapped in car, the woman who drowned all her kids in tub, the endless reports of babes in garbage bags dumped, etc etc.

That’s really interesting, Augie. Thanks. Kind of makes me sick at my stomach, though.

Maybe Baez tried to talk to Crazy Casey & she wants to stick to her story & take her chances. No matter which way it goes…her life right now is the best it’s ever going to be. If she doesn’t get the death penalty & spends life in prison in general population, what life she has will be hell & if for some insane reason she is found innocent, I think someone, probably several, will find her & make sure she feels what Caylee felt….as for Cindy & George, maybe they’ll be in jail & won’t be able to do the Oprah show. The next depo should just about nail the coffin for them all. I haven’t heard how soon it will be before they call George back. They are all backed in a corner now, someone has to break. They showed total disrespect to the justice system. I cannot imagine the pain of testifying against my own child; but as parents & grandparents, I don’t understand not wanting justice & closure for Caylee, the one they all loved so much. How sad, if given the chance Casey would set one of them up in a minute. How can they even think, knowing in their hearts what she did, how dare they think she should walk down the street next to our kids after what she did to her own?

There won’t be any problem with finding a death penalty qualified jury in Florida.
They’re pretty much running neck to neck in executions with the state of Texas when it comes to dishing out and exacting the death penalty.

Am trying to recall if the Florida gov. also signed up to eliminate the death penalty as other states have recently due to the lack of monies to keep up with the cost of the procedures. Probably not, Florida residents are proud of their heavy handed penalties for any and all crimes.

As far as I know, Governor Crist has not signed on to abolish it. Florida may have it’s very liberal areas (against the death penalty), but Florida is still generally very conservative. Central Florida is the most liberal of all of Florida, but they do not rule the state. Governor Crist is also a conservative, and I can’t find any mention of him doing that. A note to add, Florida has to be heavy handed with the law as we are in the top 4 states for illegal immigration, and we are a melting pot for not only the immigrants, but the rest of the country. We have an influx of transients from all over, and with these things comes crime, sad, but true. As far as the death penalty and women, I read just yesterday that only 16 women have been sentenced to death in Florida in the past 100 years. Just because the death penalty is on the table does not mean that she will get a death sentence. It just ups the anti and makes a deal more likely, also the jury could sentence her to less than death. It shows that the prosecution must have some pretty damning evidence to go that route. It shows me that no matter what course she most likely won’t walk, if they have that kind of evidence, and I’ll bet they do, as the attorney general had to sign off on this. She will get found guilty of something close to what she’s charged with. Sorry to be so long winded.

I don’t think that Baez wants a plea for Casey and I am afraid he may be influencing her to not think about a plea. I agree with the attorney on Nancy Grace last night that he wants this trial sooooo badly that it should be a conflict of interest for him to represent her.
