Sky News interviews Ruby Kanger, Haleigh Cummings great-grandmother

June 28, 2009

haleigh cummings 3Authorities conducted a massive and fruitless search Friday for little Haleigh Cummings on a farm owned by Marie Griffis,Crystal Sheffield’s mother in Baker County, Florida. It was allegedly conducted at the request of Crystal’s family according to Kim Picazio, Crystal’s attorney and spokesperson.

“We thought we should come out here and search the property over just to verify that these were just dead animals and nothing else,” said Capt. Dominic Piscitello, chief of Putnam County’s Major Crimes Unit.   The Department of Law Enforcement, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Dept., Baker County Sheriff’s Office and cadavar dogs were also involved in the search.  Divers were also present.

Ruby Kanger, Haleigh’s great-grandmother on her mother’s side spoke in an exclusive interview with T.J. Hart on Sky 97.3 FM radio station about the search and what she thinks should be done in the investigation.

Kanger said, “The search was just insult to injury and a waste of time. They don’t have a shred of evidence against anybody–not anybody! If they had any evidence against somebody, why would they have gone there and did what they did?…I realized then [when they searched] that, no, they weren’t building a case against anyone.  They don’t have anything.”

After criticizing the search as a waste of time, Ms. Kanger said the investigation needs to come back to Putnam County and more attention needs to be given to Misty Cummings, the last person to see Haleigh.
Kanger goes on to say that Ron and Crystal were both lacking in parenting skills and Ron made bad choices as to who watched his young children while he worked.

In Ruby Kanger’s mind, Misty is the  person that knows what happened that night and she can’t seem to get Misty Croslin Cummingsher story straight with investigators.

Ruby begged Misty to be honest on the Sky, saying, “If can’t never get your story straight, then who would you be protecting except your self? The truth has one face. The truth has one voice…..and it doesn’t change.

you can listen to the interview and read the transcript below.

When I first heard they were searching Crystal’s family’s property for Haleigh I was hopeful someone had passed a credible tip and that we would soon know Haleigh’s fate. When LE said that they were just dotting their eyes and crossing their t’s, I figured that was just a cover and news would be forthcoming.  Well, apparently that’s not true.  Could they really have wasted all that manpower and spent all that taxpayer money just because the family requested it, as Picazio stated?

What else are they doing?  Is Misty still being brought in for repeated questioning, or has she gotten a free pass at this point?  I agree with Ruby Kanger 100%.  Misty is the key in all this.  She doesn’t strike me as the type that would keep her mouth shut. She’s talked to somebody–a friend, a relative-SOMEBODY.   If Misty won’t help authorities then that somebody should.  Over 4 1/2 months have passed, and it’s time to put Haleigh first and bring her home. The sheriff’s dept can’t do anything if no one is willing to step up.

Very good points Mystery! I do think Misty holds the key and I hate smokescreens. I really thought a lot about the reports on why they searched Crystal’s Mom’s farm, and I even read that according to Crystal’s attorney that they set this search up a week in advance. Now, I’m not sure how true this is, but why would LE do that? If anything would have been there, someone would have had time to move it. Not that I’m accusing them of anything, it’s just not good LE tactics. I know they went over the property that Haleigh lived on, but did they dig that? It just doesn’t make sense, and I believe this is just an expensive smokescreen. Unless there is something we are not privy too and that’s possible, but still not good tactics.

mystery, I am glad You did a Post on Haleigh. It seems like she doesn’t get much Coverage no more, the Reason for that I would think, there just isn’t anything
new to report. No Progress has been made in over 4 month. How could a little Girl
just go missing without a trace.
I agree with every one, Misty knows what happened that night when Haleigh disappeared. It’s a mystery to me, why LE isn’t able to get the Truth out of
Misty, I guess Casey Anthony must be a Role Model for Misty. Casey and the Truth are Strangers too.
In my Heart I know Haleigh isn’t alive any more, whatever happened to her did happen that night she was reported missing or even that Day. I also believe she is
buried close by where Misty and Ron lived when she went missing.
Naturally I would love to keep hoping that Haleigh would be found alive but
it is very unlikely. Should Haleigh be found than it will be like Caylee, just her
Remains will be found. I would want nothing more than to be wrong, I just have that feeling I am not. JMO

I don’t know if Ron knows anything or not. The only thing I know for sure is that Misty knows something. She was the one that was there.

niecey–I’ve thought for a while that there was something really wrong with that sheriff’s department–either they are completely incompetent or they are covering something up. JMO and as you said, they’re not releasing much, but when they do something like this for the reasons they stated, it sure makes you wonder———-

Hilde–I held out hope for a long time that Haleigh might still be alive. I don’t have much hope anymore for just the reason you stated. She seems to have disappeared into thin air. No clues, no nothing. If she were alive I would think someone somewhere might have seen her at some point.

Instead of wasting taxpayers money on a fruitless search, heck they checked in the past, and unless they had REAL evidence otherwise, why waste all that money to search Crystal’s family farm yet again???? Makes no dam sense. The GG on Crystal’s side does sound like one woman with good common sense. The Truth has ONE FACE, dam right!!!

Better yet would be money spent to put some muscle/pressure on Misty and Ronboy. They DO know something. The complete story changes, living off of donations and moving on in their lives speaks VOLUMES!!! Husband and wives often break up after a death or loss of a child. Instead Ron marries the irresponsible drug user who was last left with his child. We all know something is truly amiss with this picture. Grannies on Ron’s side praise Misty, give me a freakin break.

Poor Haleigh, God bless you and may Angels keep you now! You have been let down by those who should have protected you.

Sophie–I’m with you this case stinks beyond understanding. Not just Ron and Misty but the whole lot of them. If they haven’t already, the FBI needs to bring in someone that specializes in cracking hard nuts.

My views on this case have not changed and they are this is a good ole boy network…involving city and county officials…thus the reason Misty and Ron are not pressed for answers.
I think Ron crossed someone in power and thought he could get away with it…he was warned but b/c Mama worked for the sheriff’s dept he thought he didn’t have to worry…they taught him a lesson he will not forget any time soon. I think he was forced to marry Misty by the same ones that took Haleigh…this was to knock him down a few notches..Ron might pick these girls up and use them but he doesn’t marry them…he doesn’t want used goods…and these girls have been used…that is a sort of thing that would demean his male macho pride.
They have no one to talk to…the very people you would go to are the ones that have committed this horrible deed…so that leaves them to do just as they are doing …laying low and not talking…no one in Ron’s family is talking.
They did not expect to find anything on that farm but they are going along with the request of the public…the game must be played…but what they are really hoping for is this case to go cold and be forgotten.
They probably have a lot of money at stake…drugs and prostitution..
has anyone wondered why these teenage girls are out there selling themselves and no one is doing anything about it?
These girls belong in school…some are as young as 14…where are the parents??? Where are the school officials demanding these girls attend school as the law states they have to do??? No one seems to bother…no one is worried about getting in trouble with the law…wonder why???
I believe Cobra was getting to close…he wasn’t giving up…so they shut him down…they arrested him on some trumped up charges.
Of course I have no proof…but it sure adds up. JMO…

Wow, Mand. I so hope you are wrong about that, but I sure can’t figure out any other plausable explanation as to why a twit like Misty hasn’t been pushed a little harder and how Haleigh could have literally vanished into thin air.

It’s hard to believe that there is so much corruption in this country among those that are there to protect us and up-hold the law…but the reality is …it is out there.
This town reeks of it…the ex-police officer/sex offender/Bail bondsman…who’s wife fronts the business…tell me the town officials are not aware of him???…He was part of the scheme that took Cobra down!
    I could be wrong..but I don’t think I am.
The FBI is probably working on this corruption but it will take some time as the town is small and they can not infiltrate they will have to get an informant…all that evidence will take time.

I hope you are right about the FBI, Mand. I’m really afraid this case will go down as unsolved.
