Sky News interviews Ruby Kanger, Haleigh Cummings great-grandmother
Authorities conducted a massive and fruitless search Friday for little Haleigh Cummings on a farm owned by Marie Griffis,Crystal Sheffield’s mother in Baker County, Florida. It was allegedly conducted at the request of Crystal’s family according to Kim Picazio, Crystal’s attorney and spokesperson.
“We thought we should come out here and search the property over just to verify that these were just dead animals and nothing else,” said Capt. Dominic Piscitello, chief of Putnam County’s Major Crimes Unit. The Department of Law Enforcement, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Dept., Baker County Sheriff’s Office and cadavar dogs were also involved in the search. Divers were also present.
Ruby Kanger, Haleigh’s great-grandmother on her mother’s side spoke in an exclusive interview with T.J. Hart on Sky 97.3 FM radio station about the search and what she thinks should be done in the investigation.
Kanger said, “The search was just insult to injury and a waste of time. They don’t have a shred of evidence against anybody–not anybody! If they had any evidence against somebody, why would they have gone there and did what they did?…I realized then [when they searched] that, no, they weren’t building a case against anyone. They don’t have anything.”
After criticizing the search as a waste of time, Ms. Kanger said the investigation needs to come back to Putnam County and more attention needs to be given to Misty Cummings, the last person to see Haleigh.
Kanger goes on to say that Ron and Crystal were both lacking in parenting skills and Ron made bad choices as to who watched his young children while he worked.
Ruby begged Misty to be honest on the Sky, saying, “If can’t never get your story straight, then who would you be protecting except your self? The truth has one face. The truth has one voice…..and it doesn’t change.

When I first heard they were searching Crystal’s family’s property for Haleigh I was hopeful someone had passed a credible tip and that we would soon know Haleigh’s fate. When LE said that they were just dotting their eyes and crossing their t’s, I figured that was just a cover and news would be forthcoming. Well, apparently that’s not true. Could they really have wasted all that manpower and spent all that taxpayer money just because the family requested it, as Picazio stated?
What else are they doing? Is Misty still being brought in for repeated questioning, or has she gotten a free pass at this point? I agree with Ruby Kanger 100%. Misty is the key in all this. She doesn’t strike me as the type that would keep her mouth shut. She’s talked to somebody–a friend, a relative-SOMEBODY. If Misty won’t help authorities then that somebody should. Over 4 1/2 months have passed, and it’s time to put Haleigh first and bring her home. The sheriff’s dept can’t do anything if no one is willing to step up.
