Jose Baez talks about his defense team and Casey Anthony’s case

July 17, 2009
jose baez talksJose Baez sat down with FOX 35 reporter Holly Bristow to talk about the defense team.

Baez has managed to hook quite a few nationally renowned experts to help in with Casey’s case.  Most notable is Andrea Lyon, a law professor from Chicago known as the “angel of death row”.  She says she has never lost a death penalty case (meaning she has managed to get her clients life sentences instead)  Linda Kenny Baden, a forensics specialist is another coup for Baez.

“There are ranges of the spectrum where you have science presented in the courtroom that completely relies on empirical data and then you have an area of science that relies on a person’s opinions and beliefs. That is where the area of false convictions comes up that’s where false interpretation comes up and that’s where scientists become advocates,” said Baez.

Forensic expert, Dr. Henry Lee jumped on board early on.  He is famous for helping to free OJ Simpson.

So why are these heavy hitters helping to defend an unemployed single mother?

“There wasn’t one person that I was able to talk to that wasn’t fascinated by this case when I was done.” Baez said.

I have a better theory as to why they all happily joined in–They are all media hogs and in it for,  1) the publicity, and 2) their future earnings through books, public appearances, and documentaries.  Period. Nothing to do with trying to get off an innocent victim–cuz it’s obvious beyond obvious Casey Anthony is not innocent.

Her guilt was known the minute Cindy Anthony smelled the dead body in the car and realized her granddaughter had been missing for 30 days and Casey didn’t tell tell anyone.  All Casey’s previous lies and behavior HAD to have raced through Cindy’s mind that night while Casey was giving her all the lame excuses and lies about where Caylee was.   She may have later supressed it, but there had to have been a moment, in the beginning, when she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt what happened.

I think Baez knew, too.

He said, “I will say, as I began to read her police report it certainly seemed to be more of your standard child neglect case.”

Of course, he now says, “We now believe she is innocent.”

I so agree Mystery…Baez was out to make a name for himself and was prepared to do anything it took to do it…the experts that came on board all have baggage and it’s doubtful any well thought of high profile attorney would/will invite them to assist on a case…Dr. Lee was suspected of evidence tampering in the Spector case…left the country immediately after or before the trial was over(memory fails me)
and spends most of his time out of the country. LKB didn’t impress many with her handling of the Spector ended with a hung jury and she was not on board for the second trial. Lyons left an innocent man rot in jail for 26 years knowing he was innocent of the crime he was serving time for…she was not the guilty man’s attorney and should have been able to have found a way around the attorney-client law.
I don’t think many are impressed with his…DREAM TEAM…other than himself..and I agree these so called experts are out for what they can get for themselves…Lyons will take precedence over LKB…her job is to get the DP off the table..not to try and prove KC’s innocence…and the best way for her to achieve this will be to look for a plea deal and I’m betting it will coincide with the launch of her book that is to be in Jan.2010…that’s her reward for taking the case…so you see they all have their own agenda.
Baez will be lucky if he ends up being suspended and not disbarred..I personally feel he should be disbarred to prevent him from doing this to someone else…he is unethical and to say the least unprofessional..and if the truth is ever known a crook.
Cindy as KC’s mother knew from the beginning that her daughter was responsible for whatever happened to Caylee…she changed her tune and continued to change even more when she was made aware there was money to be made from the case!! Caylee was all but forgotten once Cindy found she loved the cameras and she and George could make this a life’s way of making money.JMO.

Excellent, Mand! I could not have said or added anything to what you wrote. Well done.

Silly, silly man….. He should stick to interpretive dance rather than public speaking…or just read some of his own haikus inspired by the case. Itd be a lot more entertaining for us. Maybe michelle bart could play a congo drum behind him for each set. Both of them wearing shamrock leotards. Maybe if they can rig it, cindy can “fly” behind them in her straitjacket. 🙂

Oh, ostella! I was hoping for a good chuckle and I actually got a belly laugh! Thanks.

I am still amazed the only people that are not heartbroken over the murder of Caylee are Casey, Baez, Lyon, and Dr. Lee. They were “fascinated by this case ” what!!!!! Well while Casey is now free of Caylee and the others can entertain themselves we the general public remain sad over the loss of Caylee. How can they live like this; how can Lyons be proud she has saved people from a fate they deserved? “Never lost a death penalty case” huh well I feel safer. So people will blog back everyone deserves a fair trial blah blah blah Caylee deserved to live until God and only God decided it was time to go.

Everyone deserves a fair trial, yes. But, did an innocent man deserve to spend years in prison? Lyon and others stood silent while that happened. I don’t know how people like Andrea Lyon can justify in their minds the things that they do. It’s a mystery to me….I just don’t get it!

Mystery, I loved, loved, loved your answer! You made me laugh when you said, “Well, I’ll tell you why, THEY ARE ALL MEDIA HOGS!”

I agree 100% with every thing you say! Cindy, G. and Lee have known from day one….since they first smelled the decomp. That’s when they all went into “overdrive” to save Casey’s murdering butt!

Your blog is terrific, and so are you! Tks. for all the great info. about this case. One of these days WE ALL WILL SEE JUSTICE FOR LITTLE CAYLEE.

thanks Daisey1! I look forward to the day Casey gets what I believe she deserves

I agree that the Ant’s knew right at the beginning for that flickering moment & CHOSE to back up Casey’s stories. Even those jail videos when they visited, you can see that Cindy does not really believe what Casey has dealt out.

Yes, all media hounds. What other case is getting such coverage? none. Get their name out there, their name out there, their name out there, their face, etc. Notoriety & something to add to their resume’s is their agenda. I am not impressed by Lyon & her “wins” of getting the DP taken off. I am disgusted with her moral choices.

And they are attempting to use their notoriety to make money–all of them!

Thanks Mystery…I totally agree with you and everyones comments.

Bozo sent a money order to the Bank of America for $664.25 on Fri 10th July 2009. In their reply they state “it is to be noted that Bank of America did not take this payment in lieu of criminal prosecution.”

But she is pleading not guilty!!!
Why then did he pay it???

I must be thicker than two short planks…anyone got any ideas?

    Hugs ♥♥♥

Excellent point, Jill. I don’t think it’s you that is thicker than two short planks.

    Good Morning Mystery and All!

You hit the nail on the head. There is not one person on the defense that I feel “truly” cares about the fate of Casey as much as the fame that Casey will be able to bring them. Jose Baez has proven time and again that he should not be the one to defend someone’s life much less a traffic ticket. I am astounded at the immaturity that Baez seems to show when in court.

Again, is anyone besides the prosecutors going to stand for Caylee?

Hi halfpint! The prosecution appears to truly care–they’ve remained level headed and steadfast and there in lies the difference between them and the defense and I believe that difference will bring Caylee justice.

He tried to pay it off??? Now??? He really is precious, isn’t he? What a maroon…. The virus has obviously eaten most of his brain. The only thing that could make that story funnier is if he wore his mens 1-piece bathing suit to the bank for the transaction….

Can’t imagine why Lyon allowed Baez to pay that off. Maybe he did it without her permission.

LOL! Can you say?: My client is guilty and I want you to tuck this one under the rug, so she won’t have a criminal record for the murder trial??? Didn’t work. KUDOS To Bank Of America!!! For not accepting it, and proceeding with prosecution. Casey needs to be held accountable Bozo!!!

agree niecey. Bank of America deserves a gold star!

Jill, I had never heard that Bozo sent a check to try and make the fraud charges go away. THAT IS AMAZING. I am so looking forward to the fraud trial. Does anyone know when a decision will be made regarding when the trial can be held? It seems like at least month since the state requested a trial date.

I actually think it will be decided at a hearing in September, September!

Hello my l♥velies…ooooh Ostella what a wonderful piccy you have conjured up…I guess his onesey would have to be brown? 😛

Mikka … love your Maine Coon Avatar … either Bees or Ostella told me what your cat is … I enjoyed googling about them. The way I read it B.O.A. took the money BUT issued the statement that “it is to be noted that B of A did NOT take this payment IN lieu of criminal prosecution.” I think they will probably “hold” the money…after all it is owed to them.

Hiya September…nothing heard as yet but from memory time is running out…lets hope we hear something after the weekend. We can be sure that both Mystery and Niecey will have the details for us the second it is published…they are both supersleuths 🙂

    Hugs ♥♥♥

I love how Jose manages to inform us all that he is a law amatuer everytime he gives an interview. This time it was with the comment “I will say, as I began to read her police report it certainly seemed to be more of your standard child neglect case.”

Standard child neglect case?!?! No one could find Caylee or any trace of a person named Zanny who KC claimed to be caring for her. Is that standard child neglect? Most neglect cases I hear about are kids left in hot cars in the summer, kids not being fed properly, kids living in squalid conditions, kids not attending school, kids suffering abuse… but all of these cases have one thing in common… the kid is right there, usually taken into protective custody by the state.

And when you get right down to it, why is Jose even involved in this case at all? KC claims she heard of him while she was in the waiting room at jail. Do any of you believe the cops left her in an area where she could freely converse with other criminals while she was waiting to be booked? OK, maybe, but it seems unlikely.

Is KC the kind of girl to take advice from another girl being booked into jail? She doesn’t seem like the advice taking kind of person to me.

Why doesn’t Jose clear up how he got involved? To my knowledge, he has never told anyone how KC first contacted him.

There is a link as yet undiscovered between KC and Jose.

Spacely–I agree with you. Every time he opens his mouth these days he manages to mis-speak. I never bought how Casey found out about Jose either.
