September 11–God Bless America

September 11, 2009

september 11 comboMay we never forget……….

——————————————————————————————————————

Time is passing,

Yet, for the United States of America,

there will be no forgetting September 11.

We will remember every rescuer who died in honor.

We will remember every family that lives in grief.

We will remember the fire and ash,

the last phone calls,

the funerals of children.

President George W. Bush, November 11, 2001

When an American says that he loves his country, he means not only that he loves the New England hills, the prairies glistening in the sun, the wide and rising plains, the great mountains, and the sea.  He means that he loves an inner air, an inner light in which freedom lives and in which a man can draw the breath of self-respect.  ~Adlai Stevenson

It was the most terrible day in our history and yet, living in New York, it was wonderful to see people embracing, protecting, and consoling their neighbors. There was no such thing as race – we were all Americans.

    paula–

I can’t imagine what it must have been like. I agree that it brought us together in a way that hadn’t happened in many years. Such a shame it was because of the worst tragedy in American history and that that coming together didn’t last. I can remember only one other time in my lifetime where that phenomena occurred, and that was the death of President Kennedy–it didn’t last then either.

Many, many years ago – I think it was 1965 or 1966, there was a blackout throughout the city. People were leaving their jobs in Manhattan and walking home to the different boroughs. There was no looting or rioting. There was just people in cars giving a ride home to strangers. It was wonderful to witness. I agree, however, when the crisis is past everyone goes back to their own little world. But New Yorkers, and all Americans stand together when the going gets rough. God Bless America!

You are so right, Paula! When we’re together we’re ALL together and that’s a force to be reckoned with!
