Misty Croslin to speak out Monday amid a flurry of speculation from her family

September 12, 2009

haleigh cummings on myspaceAccording to Art Harris from The Bald Truth, Misty Croslin is mad and is going to speak out Monday misty full onabout her family.  Her mother and father have both said they think Misty is hiding something.  Her father went so far as to say she left Haleigh and Junior alone in the house.

“I talked to Misty today,” her attorney Robert Fields told Art Harris in an exclusive interview,  “and she wants to make it clear that while her family is saying they are ‘distancing’ themselves from her, SHE’S the one who has been distancing herself from her family.”

Misty filed a restraining order against her brother, Tommy Croslin after claiming he punched her in the face the night of the altercation with Ronald.  He has to stay away from her AND he has to give up his guns–though, as of now, he hasn’t done that. According to Tommy, he has washed his hands of Misty and wants nothing more to do with her.

ChelseaMisty’s sister-in-law  was in town the night Haleigh disappeared and was questioned recently in Haleigh’s appearance. (My question is–Why “recently”?  Why wasn’t she questioned months ago????)

Chelsea spoke publicly for the first time from her home in Massachusetts to FOX affiliate, WAWS TV.

“I don’t know anything that happened to Haleigh, and I wish to God I did. I wish that I knew where Haleigh was, and I wish I could find her and bring our baby girl home. Cause, she’s 6 years old and she does not to be out in the world without us,” said Chelsea Croslin.

“We’ve now been thrown into the spotlight of this, were known as the Cape Cod couple. I mean, just to give us a name, this is nothing I ever in my life expected to have to go through. Its obviously not Haleigh’s fault I’m going through this, but I just don’t understand why I got thrown into this so hard,” Chelsea said.

Chelsea Croslin said the chief Putnam County investigator and another officer in Haleigh’s case landed on her doorstep last weekend and brought her in for questioning.

“I was down there probably from about 9 o’clock to noon and you know. They just wanted to go over the phone lines. They wanted to go over time lines, and try to fill in gaps of what happened that night and who Misty talked to. And try and I guess get down to the end of this,” said Croslin.

Chelsea said her family has been struggling throughout this ordeal to stick together.

“If I was sitting on the outside and looking in on this family, Id see the 17 year old girlfriend and just the way everything’s happened, maybe I would go more towards the Croslin family. But, you know, I know everybody in our family and every single one of us loves children. We all love each others children and none of us would hurt them and I think they’ve geared the investigation toward the Croslins’ from day one,” she said.

“We tried starting our lives over here. We moved up here so my girls could get a good education. We could get a good home and be around our family, and when all of this got over with in Florida we could be together and just continue on with our lives and let our kids grow up and have normal lives. And now, they’re making us out to be something were not.”

Chelsea still believes Misty had nothing to do with Haleigh’s disappearance.

“Until somethings proven, were not going to believe it. Because we believe Misty. We know how good and great she is with our kids and she has 6 of her own nieces and nephews. She is one of the best people with children out there,” said Chelsea.

“She’s like my little sister. I’m not trying to say shes not a smart person, but you know, Misty dropped out of school in the 6th grade. She doesn’t have that much book smarts to be able to fool the FBI and FDLE and every other person that came there and interrogated her for hours and hours and hours and Lie detected her over and over and over… I don’t think Misty, she could do it. She’s got a good heart, a good kid, and she loves children. I would trust misty with my kids, before a lot of other people in this world.” she said.  “You can see it in her eyes, all she is, is a hurt little girl. Shes gone through a lot in her life and shes going through a lot now and its tearing her apart, its really what its doing.”

Chelsea and Tim Croslin moved to Floriday to escape the stress of the investigation and to give the detectives space to “get the job done.”  They say they will continue to cooperate with authorities.

Well, it sounds like even though her parents and at least one of her brothers have had enough and are publicly trying to get Misty to talk, she still has at least one ally in Chelsea.  It will be interesting to see what Misty has to say Monday.

It’s still absolutely mystifying (pun intended) that Misty has been able to keep it together this long. She IS just a kid and, you’d think, could easily be outsmarted by the FBI. (It is soooo shades of Casey Anthony in that respect) How has she managed to keep whatever “secret” she’s holding and why would she want to?  There are only two answers to that question, IMO.  1) She really was too high to remember or wasn’t there. (The polygraph seems to disprove the theory that she wasn’t there. It also revealed she knows SOMETHING) Or 2) Someone is threatening her in such a way that it outweighs whatever concern she might have for Haleigh.  I look at her and listen to her and just can’t imagine that she actually killed Haleigh herself.

    Mystery..
This is indeed a strange case and keeps getting stranger by the day..I would say the family is distancing themselves from Misty… as Misty has said nothing so far against them except for the restraining order against the brother…to have both mother and father turn against her has to mean something…what do they know…or what have they heard?????
I think it is #2…she fears for herself…and not just a little.

Will someone explain to me how she can drop out of school in the 6th grade??? Are there school officials in Satsuma…where was LE and CPS on this one??? Most of all where and what the HELL is wrong with these parents and why were they not charged with permitting her not to attend school???????

    Hi Mand!

I was very surprised to hear she dropped out in 6th grade. That can’t be legal. I thought it was a law that you had to put your children in school. I also thought you had to be 16 before you could drop out.

I think Misty has had a really rough life and I doubt seriously her parents have ever really been there for her. Her mother’s little speech about “just tell me the truth. I’ll stand right beside you and we’ll get through it together.” was quite lame.

    Good Morning Mystery…
I agree about Misty’s mother…why would she feel she had to go public with that speech???
I think the law about attending school is the same in all states…that is why I wonder where everyone is in Satsuma on this issue…these girls drop out of school…no jobs…most of Misty’s friends are on drugs and into prostitution and have a child…I would think it safe to guess all are on public assistance…and will continue to be due to no education….Misty will certainly be one that will remain in the program with a 6th. grade education…other than babysitting or housecleaning what sort of job could she get…and she seems to look for someone to take care of her rather than work. To her and her family Ron would seem quite a catch…he had a job!!! A 16/17 year old marrying a 26 year old man with children/child…and so very immature?? Seems like Ron likes them very young and not to bright…easier to control…but Misty has become his worst nightmare…not so easy to control…yet he says in public he believes her stories…WHY????
I still feel there is something wrong in that town…Misty does not attend school and is living with a 26 year old man and nothing is done ???? He could have been charged with consensual rape of a minor…
contributing to the delinquency of a minor just to name a few…but nothing…WHY???
It will be interesting to hear what Misty has to say on Monday??

Haleigh seems to be lost in all this family anger…SOUND FAMILAR???

Good morning all. Well, look at Misty’s family. Do they look like Harvard graduates? Maybe this type of family is not rare around Satsuma. Mom and Dad probably wanted Misty to get a man with a job. Now they can be comfortable with their drugs, etc. Misty, IMO will blow soon. She’s even said “How much can a kid take?”

Good Morning all, I have no love lost for Misty, but her family displays the complete opposite attitude of the Anthonys IMO. She told on national tv that she had a horrible childhood, and now the illiterate ignorant parents, who allowed her to quit school in 6thgrade, were drug users according to her (Ibelieve that as they are missing all their teeth etc) and family members abused her, NOW they are distancing themselves from her???? I think moving in with a man at 16 or 17 would qualify as her distancing herself, for better or worse. As with Casey Anthony, this ” child”was created by genetics and environment. Once again family needs to shut up, support their family with love, but not get involved. Who really cares what these idiots think. I believe Misty is irresponsible, therefore something unexpected and bad happened. Just my opinion!!!

I’m confused. I thought Hank Jr was the brother she took out the restraining order against? Wasn’t he the one involved in that big fight when the cops got called? Why is she “restraining” a brother who lives in Massechusetts when she’s in Florida? Maybe I missed something…

If I tried dropping out of school at 11 yrs old to live a fulfilling life of sex, drugs, and chainsmoking, I think my parents wouldve surgically removed my head from my a$$, and then beaten me senseless. I don’t get how the city can turn a blind eye to that. There’s something fishy about that town….

Mand–You make some very good points here–what’s going on in this little town that children are not made to go to school or else a parent be held responsible? And how did Ron get away with having a a child as his live-in girlfriend in charge of his babies? Where was DHS and why was Misty allowed, as a minor to live with a grown man, not go to school, and be responsible for two small children?

I am not very familiar with Misty’s personal story-other than I believe I read she was raped as a child by a family member and her parents were crackheads. I imagine neglect played a big part in her life and her self-worth would be right at about zero. Obviously, no one asked why she wasn’t in school, or at the age of 11 she would not have been able to drop out. Actually, I seriously doubt she left school of her own volition–her parents obviously just chose not to take her and no one in authority forced them to take her. I guess that would make Misty one of those kids that slipped through the cracks.

Not to say that gives her the right to do what she’s doing now. It doesn’t.

    Carol in VA–

I agree about Misty’s family and the area they live in, but STILL–an 11 year old “drops out” of school?? How is that allowed to happen?

You are right, at this point in her life, the best she could have hoped for would be to marry someone with a job that didn’t abuse her.

I think we are very close to the truth, too. They need to keep the pressure on Misty. She WILL crack, and then as Ron said himself, let the chips fall on whoever did it. Let them pay.

    azrenee–

I agree with you 100%. Misty is a product of her environment and genes and she did whatever she did because violence, dishonesty, and outrageous behavior is the only way of life she knows.

Again, she’s still responsible for whatever she knows or did, and should be made accountable if she either directly or indirectly had something to do with that baby’s disappearance.

If she was abused as a child…raped by a family member …where in the H*ll were the authorities….and why would she not be taken away from that family and put in foster care and made to attend school????
Her mother looks like a Meth user…not to say she didn’t also use crack but she has the typical appearance of a Meth user…premature aging and no teeth.
Misty may be a product of her environment but that does not give her Card Blanc to continue the lying and being evasive..LE needs to start cracking down on her lies and changing stories…WHY/WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR?????
The FBI needs to take this case over and move on it…get tough on them all….JMO…..

    Mand–

I agree. I think a lot of children slip throught the cracks because their environment isn’t considered “life threatening” and funds are tight. My daughter-in-law, a kindergarten teacher, turns parents in regularly to DHS, but very few are pulled from the home, and then only if they perceive their lives to be in danger. Very tragic, IMO.

Hopefully, things will continue to pop on this case and we’ll have some answers soon. Misty was supposed to make a statement today about her family’s recent turncoat statements, but I haven’t seen it anywhere yet.

Something more has to be done for these children…so many times as we have seen…they are in life threatening situations…the majority of murdered children have the same family backgrounds…single mothers on public assistance….most are under educated…the system is failing these children…they are doomed to continue their life of poverty…these folks of Satsuma are proof there is something drastically wrong with the system…Misty’s parents…Crystal and her parents…Misty’s friends..Nay Nay and the likes…and does anyone how much education Ron has???

Misty must have decided to keep her mouth shut…could it be her attorney advised her???

    We’ll see what tomorrow brings???

Hey Mand–I have not heard whether Ron graduated from hs or not.

I know that lack of education, inability to get a decent job, a bad up-bringing, and all the other things that are stacked against Misty have contributed to her current situation, but there’s always a choice. She could have worked hard, gotten her GED and gone on to get either a college education or some other training. There’s all kinds of money out there to help people like Misty pull herself out of poverty. The problem is there aren’t enough people like Misty with the gumption to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Hi Carol–Unfortunately, those are the people having the most babies. They don’t give a second thought as to how they will afford to take care of them–the government ie taxpayers ie you and me will!

If Obama wants to reform something let him reform the welfare system. Make a time limit for how long someone can be in the system and make it a requirement that they HAVE to get some sort of education or training while they are in the system. Let the welfare system pay for their training and child care while they are educating themselves, help them get a job afterwards, and force them off the rolls.

I guarantee that would be cheaper than supporting them for their entire lives and then supporting the children they have for their entire lives, etc.

    Mystery…AMEN ON THAT ONE GIRLFRIEND!!!!!
Misty followed in the footsteps of her family…being permitted to leave school in the 6th.grade is a crime in most cities and states…she had no direction…at that age she needed guidance…I doubt she could ever recover…she has found other ways to make money and it’s not a 9-5 job.

It’s time the system takes action against those that can not afford a clan of kids…so many are single women/girls…after the second one they need to have a birth control implant…and like you said Mystery be made to learn to support themselves and kids…stop sitting by the mail box on the first of the month waiting for that check….our tax dollars…

Welllllll-the implant thing makes me a bit nervous as does forced birth control of any kind. Educating people and then having them voluntarily agree to something along those lines is one thing (most of the civilized world does that) but forcing it on them is too much government control for me—I imagine someone in that situation would cry foul saying their human rights were violated and the government needs to stay out of their business–which would be ironic since they are depending on the government to give them money so they can do their business in the first place! LOL

It’s cliche but oh so true–Education is Everything!

They would have every right to disagree….however they would then cease to be rewarded with public assistance…they would have to find a way to support themselves and family…no more increases in the monthly check by having another child…
I know it sounds harsh but when you see what happens to so many of these unwanted children I fell it would be a lot more humane..
Maybe they would wake up and start fending for themselves…if they want government to stay out of their lives…they would have the option…I on the other hand have no option…I HAVE to pay my taxes and have no say so about who benefits from my hard earned dollar!!!!!

That’s interesting. I find it a little odd that he referred to a priest as the one she talked to. Are they Catholic? I didn’t think they were.

Here is Steph’s bio and photo. He has a good resume and appears legit. I’ll dig around a bit and see if I can find anyone else reporting this. Otherwise I guess we have to wait for him to post today and see if it is verified by someof the news outlets. Who knows what’s the truth in this crazy case.

I don’t know what happened to this little girl but I think that demonizing her before there’s any proof that she did anything really misses a lot of what is wrong in that family situation. Misty was obviously a badly neglected child herself. By all reports, nobody made sure she went to school after the sixth grade. And nobody noticed that a 12 year old was no longer in school. I wonder how bad was her life that living in a little trailer with a man in his twenties and being made responsible for taking care of his two young children was better than whatever she had before. That’s no life for a sixteen or seventeen year old girl. The missing child’s own mother didn’t even know what time of day that Haleigh would get out of school every day. Ronald was 24 years old, she was underage. Statutory rape anyone? The mother of his children was also a young teenager when he was…again over 18, when she gave birth to his children. So this teenage girl is living with a man who has been arrested multiple times on drug related issues and he’s a repeat statutory rape offender (never prosecuted) and he’s put her in charge of raising his children. How this guy has come out the hero in this story while the teenage girl he was abusing is the only possible bad guy anyone focuses on is beyond me.

    So Sad

Crystal Sheffield is 24 and Ronald Cummings is 25–hardly robbing the cradle if there is only a year’s difference in their ages.

I agree with you that Misty was an abused child and that she was too young to be with a 25 year old man. She was a poor choice for caregiver of those 2 children. However, the reason Misty has been made the focus of this investigation is because she has never given a straight answer as to what happened that night. Her story changed more than once, and it is still not clear where she was and what she was doing when Haleigh went missing.
Whether she had a bum childhood or is uneducated does not excuse her or relieve her of any responsibility here.

I’m not saying Ron is innocent but he has a verified alibi and according to LE he has been cleared as a suspect. The fact that he might be a low-life and had no business sleeping with or giving responsibility of his children to an ill-equipped 17 year old does not make him guilty of anything other than being a scumbag with poor judgement.
