Has there been a break in the Haleigh Cummings case?
Family told search related to Haleigh. 2:01 PM CST
Locals say this particular pond, if you go by boat, comes within a mile of where Haleigh Cummings lives. Her family is now saying the police have told them this search is related to Haleigh.
12:30 pm CSTSome news stations are now saying that LE has denied that the pond was drained in order to search for Haleigh Cummings. They are saying that police were looking for stolen items taken from a nearby home. From what I can tell, that’s a heck of a lot of work to look for stolen items. Plus how do they explain the statements of director of LE for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Major Gary Bowling?
“We’re searching it for evidence in the Haleigh Cummings case.”

Hmmmmm. Very strange, don’t you think?………….
There have been a lot of unconfirmed rumors swirling that Haleigh’s body has been found. An unconfirmed source said that although Haleigh’s body has not been recovered, evidence in the case was uncovered. This is now being denied by the Sheriff’s department.
Palatka Daily News spoke with Major Gary Bowling, Director of LE for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
“We got out here and we determined to do this the best, and really, to lessen the risk to divers, we needed to pump out a large volume of the water,” Bowling said. “We’re going to pump out a majority of the water and take a look and we’ll be back in business.”
Though several ponds have been checked since Haleigh disappeared, this is the first one to be drained. It’s also the first time this heavily wooded, underdeveloped private property has been searched, according to nearby neighbors. It’s difficult to access and bulldozers had to widen a dirt road through the trees so pumping equipment could be brought to the site.
The Mondex property, SW of Palatka near State Road 19, is notorious as a party location sometimes drawing large crowds. It is located near a part of the St. Johns River, directly across from Satsuma. There is a lot of trash in the area. Marijuana plants being grown in pots next to the pond were part of the police find. This area is extremely swampy and is difficult to search.
“The character of this area is that it is soaking wet,” Bowling said. “We’re searching it for evidence in the Haleigh Cummings case.”
Tips and information from recent jail interviews prompted the search. Three inmates were interviewed as well as Hank Tommy Croslin, Jr, recently arrested for grand theft with a hefty $50,000 bond. His wife Lindsy, and another brother, Tommy and his wife were also interviewed. Police deny the inmate interviews had anything to do with Haleigh. They also deny that Tommy gave them any information.
“We’ve had to prioriitze tips in this case,” Bowling said. “This body of water has been brought up on a couple of occasions.”
Annette Sykes, Haleigh’s paternal great-grandmother, said she had received word of the activity and immediately went to the scene where deputies and investigators were working in the woods Friday night. She questioned them and asked if they were looking for Haleigh, but they wouldn’t say yes or no, and she was kept from going any closer to the search area. She feels certain the search has something to do with Haleigh.
First Coast News also contacted Ron Cummings, but he said no one had called him in regards to Haleigh being found. He did say he doesn’t expect to be the first notified.
A detective said Haleigh’s mother, Crystal Sheffield, contacted the Sheriff’s Office with questions about what was going on in Putnam County Friday.
Marie Griffis, Haleigh’s grandmother, also told First Coast News she has not been contacted by the sheriff’s office and is unaware of any findings.
Has Tommy already buckled under police pressure? It was suspected that his bond was set so high in order to give him the “opportunity” to share what he really knows with LE.
And what an odd thing for Ron Cummings to say. Haleigh’s custodial parent doesn’t expect to be the first one notified if Haleigh were found? Why?
I’m thinking a big break in this case is coming if it isn’t already here.
