Did Misty Cummings really “skip town”?

September 23, 2009

misty croslinAccording to Nancy Grace’s dramatic announcement on her show last night, Misty Croslin Cummings has skipped town.  Misty Croslin’s attorney, Robert Fields,  just says she’s out of town.  Rumors have it she is in Orlando but that hasn’t been confirmed.

In an interview Tuesday, Lisa Croslin, Misty’s mother said she believes her son Tommy is telling the truth.

“I believe my son,” Lisa Croslin said from her new home in Tennessee. “I’ll tell anybody that. I know this will kill Misty when she hears it.”

Lisa Croslin said in the entire 7 months Haleigh has been gone, no one had mentioned that call from Ron to Tommy and she found it “puzzling”.  She said she and other family members have been estranged from Misty and were told not to contact her.

Misty has insisted that she was home with the children alone the night Haleigh disappeared.  She says she woke at 3 am to find Haleigh gone.

Lisa said Misty may have really been asleep after a weekend of partying.  But, she thinks Tommy is telling the truth.

Hank “Tommy” Croslin told detectives on Thursday that Ron Cummings called him from work to go to his house and see what was going on as he couldn’t get Misty on the phone.  He said he went to the mobile home around 9:45 pm but the place appeared empty.  He banged on the door but no one answered.

Ron Cummings’ attorney said that he did NOT ask Tommy to go check on Misty and he had been talking with her off and on throughout the evening.  He says he called the Croslin house just before 9:00 pm to ask if Misty was there. The call was 20-30 seconds and he didn’t ask Tommy to go check the trailer.

“As far as he knows, they were home,” Ron’s attorney said. “He had no reason to think they were not.”

Maj. Gary Bowling of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office verified that there were unanswered calls to Misty that night from Ron.

“There were numerous attempts to call Misty. Unsuccessful attempts.”

“He told us he banged on the door,” Bowling said. “He said it was dark and no lights were on.  It is surprising that someone would hold that information,” Bowling said.

Bowling  thinks Ron called Tommy because he couldn’t find her.  Misty and Ron had fought the week before and Misty had partyed the weekend away before coming back to Ron.

Tommy’s admission is the first time anyone other than Haleigh’s grandmother has admitted going to the trailer that night.  The grandmother says she left the trailer around 7:30 PM, and Misty, Haleigh, and Jr. were there when she left.  Teresa Neves, who is Ronald Cummings’ mother, said her son told her he spoke with Tommy Croslin that night but did not tell him to go to the mobile home.

“My son would have called me to check on his kids,” she said.

All Ronald Cummings would say is,  “That’s something for the police and the lawyers.”

Robert Fields, Misty Cummings’ attorney, said she still says she was home.

“She told me yesterday she was definitely there.  Trying to nail a time line down is one of those greasy pig issues,” he said.

He thinks she could have been asleep or Tommy could have the time wrong.

Major Bowling said detectives talked with Misty Cummings over the weekend but would not say what was discussed. They are trying to verify Tommy’s story.

“If he’s telling the truth, it means a lot,” Bowling said. “We took it for what it is worth.”

Could this case get any stranger or more confusing?  The pressure on Misty is building.  Someone is lying and it’s starting to look like it is Misty and Ron.  Phone records don’t lie. If Ron made “numerous” unanswered phone calls to Misty that night and did not connect with her, then he’s lying.  Why? Why is he covering for her?  Now that’s she’s been caught in her own lie, why is she still refusing to tell the truth?  What are these people hiding? What on earth could be more important to Ron and Misty than finding Haleigh?

Did Misty Croslin really skip town?  According to her attorney, no, she’s just “out of town”.  I guess time will tell. I don’t believe she has been told to stay home and is free to travel wherever she wants at this point.  I hope LE is keeping tabs on her, though.

Ron’s lawyer doesn’t seem to bright. In one breath, he is saying Ron called Tommy to see if Misty was at the Croslin house, then in the next breath “As far as he knows, they were home,” Ron’s attorney said. “He had no reason to think they were not.”

Ok, I don’t want to be all nit-picky on the logic here, but seems to me if you call someone to ask if your gf is at their house, you have reason to believe she is not home. In fact, not only do you have reason to believe, you have reason to act and you do so by alerting other parties that your gf may not be home by calling them, which could be construed as causing concern for your kids in this third party nearly-family-member who wanders down the road to check on your household.

Apparently, Misty’s lawyer went to the same school of DUMB as Ron’s lawyer:

“She told me yesterday she was definitely there. Trying to nail a time line down is one of those greasy pig issues,” he said.

He called his own client a greasy pig… hehehehehe…

Nothing I can say can possibly outdo the stupidity of stating your client is a liar and even lying to you.

I noticed that discrepancy too, Spacely. Misty’s attorney said it best— that’s where the pig gets greasy…….

I want to know how the car or truck or van or whatever it was that Misty said had been moved and had a dent in it (I think that’s what she said?) figures into all this. She blamed it on her cousin, I think. If she wasn’t home, she had to get where she went somehow. Did SHE drive and wreck the vehicle herself? Were the kids with her and Haleigh somehow got hurt (or worse)? Have the police gone over that vehicle with a fine-toothed comb?

    Excellent thoughts about the van!!!

It has always seemed to me that Misty damaged the van and saw an opportunity to mention it during the investigation to shift blame from herself. I have no idea if it is actually connected to the dissappearance, but I am betting she drove it to the pond for a party.

We shall see! Maybe that has something to do with the evidence they were looking for down by the pond?

I can’t find anything on Misty this morning. I think Nancy Grace just went for the sensational headline and Misty probably just got out of town to escape a little of the heat.

from Art Harris’ site Sept 22, 2009:

I’m told after a bitter fight with Ronald earlier this week (sources tell me he threw her and her clothes out of his grandmother’s trailer, then ran down the road to apologize and brought her back), she’s taken off for the beach with an unnamed girlfriend. Her lawyer confirms she’s out town, telling me she’s taking a few needed days off to seek a change of scenery and clear her head.

I pray that this case comes to an end soon. It’s really a shame that with the way our legal system works, that these morons can cause limitations and delays on what the authorities can do. Let’s find her, if someone knows where she is and end this fiasco of he said, she said. All these people keep putting the blame on the other one, let’s act like adults and face the music. I don’t know why Nancy Grace is taking the word of Tommy Croslin like it’s the Bible. I hope he isn’t lying buy how does NG know that Misty wasn’t home that night? Plus, I find it odd that Ron’s atty said that Ron was talking off and on with Misty that night, but I thought I heard that they had a fight before he left for work that night and that Misty shut her phone off, so he DIDN’T talk with her that night is how I understood it. Plus, if Tommy’s words are true, why would Ron call to check if Misty was there if he had been talking with her?? I am so confused.

Mystery, are you sure Art Harris wrote that statement? It looks like it was written by someone named RedRose? It is addressed to Art. Correct me if I am wrong. Thx.

OMGosh Pak–Thank you so much for correcting me! I was skimming through those comments and for some reason thought that Art was responding to a comment. I’ll fix it right away.

It is very confusing! I believe what Major Greenwood said. He said there were numerous calls to Misty’s phone but they were unanswered. However, he did not include a time frame in which those “numerous” calls were made. That would be a critical piece of information I would think.

Also, did he finally get hold of her? Why else would he have stopped at the store for beer and cigarettes?

And what’s up with Greg “White Boy” Paige’s arrest yesterday and release today?

For those that don’t know, he was the guy Misty hooked up with when she fought with Ron and took off just before Haleigh disappeared.

What’s worse is Nay Nay is naa naa ing. Check it out:
I don’t know what to think, except they all have something to hide. I wonder if Misty fled, or is she in protective custody? They wouldn’t tell us if she were.
If she’s not to blame that would be her best bet, as these are all a bunch of rough characters.

Nay Nay’s letter is really bothersome. That’s a very plausable scenario. The only part that doesn’t fit is why Ron would cover for them?

Is Misty even alive? I understand her and her husband were in a heated argument, and didn’t he just get a letter stating that his daughter had died as a result of the negligence of his “then” girlfriend? What was the argument about? Who was the last person to see her alive (not saying she is not – but who knows)?

What on earth WOULDN’T two immature drug abusing uneducated children playing house with a child missing under suspicious circumstances be arguing about?

All they ever did before Haleigh went missing was fight. Why would that change? They are two manipulative selfish disrespectful obnoxious individuals. No way are people like that going to get along. No giving, only taking. No trust.
