1300 pages from the transcripts of the depositions taken of the Anthony family by prosecutors

Prosecutors recently asked for the transcript of George Anthony’s grand jury testimony, saying there seemed to be discrepancies between his testimony with the grand jury and what he told prosecutors when they questioned him under oath.  George Anthony’s Aug 5 depo is 377 pgs long and in it George told prosecutors under oath that he did NOT put a piece of duct tape on the gas can.  He says he has put tape on it in the past because the cap was broken, but said he didn’t put that piece on because he would have done it in a neater way.  He said, when asked if he recognized the tape, that it was just duct tape, and he never looked at a particular brand.  He said the tape “could be from my house.  It could not be from my house.” He then said he didn’t recognize the tape on the can.

Investigators say the tape on the can matched duct tape from the Anthony’s home and also the 3 pieces of tape found over Caylee’s skull.

It is unknown why the transcripts were filed as public documents today.  Eyewitness News found out it was an unusual move and that the public isn’t normally privy to criminal depositions until the trial.

Thanks for the links. I know most of you have seen these videos however I find it odd that George Anthony said Casey borrowed Cindy’s car around or after June 24th. First of all would’nt he smell decomposition since Casey left her car at the house and or why didnt any of them ask where Caylee was at that point? I’ve said this since day one that George A is involved in some way, all of course my opinion. HE talks too m uch, rambles. What he says in this video makes no sense and what I dont get as well, why didnt the investigators call him on what he said? Like , didnt you smell decomposition at that time when Casey used Cindys car? Apparently GA said she left the car at the house around June 24th…Funny how now the investigators are asking to look at his testimony. Kind of slow now arent you? Lack of professionalism for sure. Hope this doesnt blow the case among sooooooo m any other things….i’m praying it doesnt.

I’m about 2/3 of the way through George’s interview. He goes out of his way to first say he didn’t put the duct tape on the gas can because he is “neater” than that. He says there was no duct tape on the gas can and then he switches and says there was duct tape on the gas can when investigators brought it back. He KNEW about the duct tape found on Caylee’s body at the time of this deposition. He makes contradictory statements throughout the interview.

Very predictable–You can bank on something big coming down when they start hitting the airwaves and filing their motions.

George is so “confused” that who knows what dates are what. I don’t believe that when Casey was back in the house with her parents after her first release from jail that they didn’t grill the crap out of her. Who would tiptoe around the last person to see your granddaughter???? And who flippin’ cares if the house is bugged—unless you suspected what she was going to say and you were planning on helping to cover it up.

Thanks for the link to George’s interview. I’ll post it.

Quote from Cindy concerning KC: “She dressed like a mom.”

That is exactly what I have always thought… 🙄

  15. Spacely permalink
    October 16, 2009 10:10 am

Cindy testifies that KC stole around $5000 by using one of Cindy’s credit cards without her knowledge and by writing checks out of her account to Target. Answers that lead directly to a question about KC stealing money from Lee and Cindy states she used to take his rolled up change and also wrote checks out of his account, which she then describes as:

“…that was kind of like an isolated incident…”

I’m thinking she may not fully grasp the meaning of the term “isolated incident”.

Haven’t read Cindy’s yet–just finished George’s and am starting on Lee’s. George’s was verrrry interesting.

Adamant that he didn’t put the tape on the gas can–after a lot of contradictory statements said the gas can didn’t have tape on it til LE brought it back.

Said it might not be decomp he smelled in the trunk after he’s said in earlier interviews that it was a smell he’d never forget.

Said he didn’t do chloroform searches and his wife was not a computer person til after Caylee disappeared when asked if Cindy had done a chloroform or chlorophyl search because her dogs were throwing up. George said his dogs didn’t throw up.

Said there were negotiations in the works for a book deal through Brad.

Said they accepted compensation from 48 hours because neither of them were working.

Said he didn’t believe that the remains of the child were Caylee’s.

I really don’t get why George and Cindy haven’t been slapped with a perjury charge yet. Lee, obviously, has the immunity deal, so that explains his situation, but these 2 are worthless, lying imbeciles who couldn’t tell the truth to save their own pathetic lives. Why haven’t they been charged yet? Or maybe its coming, and that’s part of why they released these? I just heard George’s grandjury testimony is being released today too…..dare I dream they’ll be in jail soon?

  27. itsamysterytome permalink*
    October 16, 2009 2:40 pm

Oh you can dare dream, but I’ll be shocked if they end up behind bars–at least not until after Casey’s trial. I’m sure there is a plan behind releasing these interviews and the grand jury testimony. Could it be that the defense really is preparing to offer up Cindy or George as potential suspects and the prosecution wants to show that they are liars and their testimony is worthless? IDK, there’s some reason they’re releasing this stuff.

I think it is simply ineptness on the part of the defense, who could have kept these depos out of the media by not allowing them to be filed with the clerk, much like the Braddy “this is different tape” evidence. But, oops, with CBS checks to be cashed and interviews to do and all the make-up time required for such and grandstanding fatally flawed motions to be filed… let’s just say it’s like if you were sleeping in the passenger seat and had your dog driving your car and it saw a particularly appealing fire hydrant… accident city…

I had to stop for today, but I made it about 3/4 through Cindy’s, who manages to name like 4 or 5 more suspects including 2 roommates of Zanny… who had no room… and Juliette Lewis is still being searched for… and the number of keys to the house and car keeps growing and always, always some are unaccounted for… with maybe Jesse still having one for the car… or is it Tony???

Ostella–Lee says he’s like Cindy and he rambles like her, but he reminds me of George, too with the idiosyncrasies in his speech patterns.

Something that really stands out to me is their passiveness. Cindy tells Lee that his sister and niece are missing and Lee actually goes out and spends half the night looking for her. Cindy then tells him, it’s ok–she talked to her. But he never follows up to see if she came home or if Caylee was ok, saying it was really none of his concern. It didn’t involve him. (If it had been my sister, you can bet I would have called my mother the next morning or even that night and asked her what in the heck was going on! Especially if I had just spent half my night trying to chase her down.) But Lee doesn’t give it a second thought until 2 weeks later when George calls and asks him to check on his mother.

    Really freakin’ weird family dynamics.

I read somewhere else that Cindy tried to say she was the one searching for the chloroform–something that George contradicts in his own deposition. Did you read that?

Spacely – you crack me up 😆 I don’t think cindy firmly grasps what stealing is either!

mystery – I read George’s depo last night too. He contradicts himself on several different things in there. And that tape story! geesh He just kept stepping all over himself. That tape was on & off those gas cans so many times & then miraculously someone else came in & put that last piece on (not neatly I might add)! It wasn’t him, it wasn’t him, how many times did he say that!

Mystery, Cindy takes credit for the chloroform searches by saying that she was searching for chlorophyll because her dogs were throwing up from eating bamboo and she thought that could be the reason. She may have looked up chloroform as part of that search since the Latin prefixes are 🙄 ok, this ain’t me, just summarizing what she says, guess she is a Latin buff 🙄 similar, but never ever looked up how to make it and would not know what to do with it if she did. They then ask her to spell chlorophyll on paper and she botches it horribly and they attach that as an exhibit.

You know why there is tape on the gas can? Because Casey was putting Caylee in the trunk where there was a gas can. And I think she placed the tape on Caylee’s face in the trunk, and she ripped, or cut, or however, she made 3 pieces of tape, and the first rip of the tape was too small for her to use and she stuck it on the gas can. Hence tape on the gas can placed there by Casey, and not George because he said if he would of used tape he would have been neater than that. The gas can doesn’t smell because she removed the can from the trunk, and now we know Casey placed the tape on the body of Caylee in the trunk. Do you think she died there? Or in the house? Why the tape? Was it the murder weapon? OR placed there after for some strange reason, kind of like the heart being stuck on the tape over her lips. Totally weird, what do you think?

Oh Spacely–As I wade through this stuff and attempt to translate the “Anthony-ese” into English, (I’ve never encountered so many dangling participles in my life!), I think my eyes have bulged to the point of popping and my mouth is permanently frozen into a distorted shape that resembles the “OMG” I can’t seem to stop repeating! Do you think I can sue now that they’ve admitted they are getting rich off blood money?

Something that I think Casey has inherited from Cindy: The ability to come up with the most cockamamie convoluted excuses I’ve ever heard in my life! And I should know, I raised three boys!

    definition of cockamamie:
1)Something worthless or trifling, even absurd or strange. A ridiculous or implausible story. 2) Any explanation or attempt to justify the behavior of Casey Anthony by Cindy, George, or Lee Anthony. Examples: I searched chlorophyll and accidentally put in the word chloroform. It was me, not Casey, you silly investigator!

    Martie–

You may be on to something! Wonder if LE has attempted to match up the edges of the tape where it was ripped?

A plausible explanation to me would be that Casey (with the flurry of phone calls the afternoon of the 16th) couldn’t find a babysitter. She put a sleeping Caylee in the trunk, (I hope she was already rendered unconscious by something Casey gave to her) put the tape over her mouth so that if she woke up in the night, no one could hear her, and went her merry way. Caylee either died from the drug, the heat, or the lack of oxygen because the tape blocked her air passage. Casey panicked, and concocted her story. I mean, how could she tell her mother she had stuck her daughter in the trunk of her car, drugged her, and taped her mouth so no one would hear her?

So, Casey found her dead the next day and went into panic mode. In the heat of the trunk, the body would have begun to decompose quickly.(Do we know if Casey slept in the next day? It could have been well into the heat of day before she remembered Caylee in the trunk.) She could have driven around for a few days hoping the whole thing would just go away. (and the decomp of the baby’s outline soaked into the trunk carpet.) Maybe she went back to the Anthony house, backed into the garage, took her out of the trunk, laid her on the rug that had signs of decomp while she set up the pool ladder, (in an attempt to make it look like a drowning), carried her to the pool–couldn’t get her up the ladder (Casey’s not very big and a dead body is dead weight) laid her down on the ground, (where the cadaver dogs hit), borrowed the shovel, attempted to dig a hole big enough to put Caylee in it, realized she didn’t have the strength to do that, bagged her up with trash bags and the laundry bag she found in the garage, put her back in the trunk, drove up the road to Suburban and dragged the bag to where she left it in the woods.

Why was the tape in the car in the first place? It could have been left over from when she borrowed the gas cans. She probably knew she would need the tape to cover the broken cap and grabbed it when she grabbed the cans. When she gave the cans back to George, the tape was left in the trunk. Maybe.

That story would make Caylee’s death accidental in the sense that she didn’t mean for her to die. I would very much like to believe she didn’t purposely kill her own daughter.

    Whoo–that was long-winded! Sorry!

  43. Martie permalink
    October 17, 2009 2:47 pm

That sounds like a plausible scenerio. And btw Casey did sleep in the morning of the 17th. Cell phone records show her last outgoing call on June 16 at 10pm. Then her phone was inactive until 11am June 17. The 4 days prior to June 17 usually showed her phone was inactive on average about 4-5 hours. (She stayed up late, and Caylee probably got up early, hence the few hours of inactivity). The night of June 16 her phone was inactive for 13 hours. The following 4 nights after June 17 showed on average her phone was inactive for about 10-12 hours. (She’s catching up on all her sleep). I can’t believe she could sleep at all really.

On a differnt thread I too wondered why George didn’t smell the decomposition on June 24 when he confronted Casey about the gas cans. Do you think he did and is lying about it now? How could he smell it when he went to pick up the car from the impound, but not on the 24th? But even if he did confront Casey on the 24th, why would he let her keep the car and drive it around and then eventually leave it at the Amscott? (If he is covering for her from the 24th on)?

  44. itsamysterytome permalink*
    October 17, 2009 7:11 pm

Martie–I think he’s been covering for her from the 16th. I do not believe George saw Casey and Caylee that morning. I don’t think she came back after her fight with Cindy on the 15th. George described Caylee and Casey’s outfits that day to a T. I don’t believe he paid that close attention to what they had on. So, it’s not a stretch to think he’s lying in some way about the 24th.
