Shaynia Davis was raped and died from asphyxiation according to police

November 19, 2009

In a news conference tonight,it was revealed by police that 5 year old Shaynia Davis’ cause of death was asphyxiation.  Mario McNeill is being charged with 1st-degree murder and rape of a child. He is being held without bond.  It is not yet known if her mother will be charged with murder as well.

This is just so heartbreaking to me.  I had prayed she had not been raped.  How could anyone do this to an innocent little girl? It’s just beyond all understanding.  And please don’t tell me what a horrible life this man must have had.  He could have made a different choice.  Did he go ahead and kill her because she could have identified him?  He got caught anyway.  He killed her for nothing.  What will happen to him now is far worse than the punishment he would have received for raping her and sparing her life.

By all accounts this child was loved and well-cared for by her Dad.  I hope he can find some comfort in knowing he gave Shaynia the security and stability she could never have had if he had not stepped up and raised her.  She appeared to be a very happy little girl, and that was because of him.

This is such a tragedy! 😥 No! His past is no excuse, nor are drugs an excuse. IMO, any man that is attracted to a child to start with is not right. Any man or woman who finds themselves in that frame of mind needs to check themselves into the nearest mental facility ASAP! If they can’t over come it castration comes to mind. There are no excuses for this kind of behavior. NONE! Even the most mentally ill still know right from wrong. This to me is pure evil. That beautiful little girl should not have had to endure this. Her mother is no better than this trash. She should be charged right with him. I will be praying for her dad. This should not have happened.

I agree, niecey. I understand that there’s some kind of mental illness if a person is attracted to a child, whether he/she acts on that attraction or not. What I don’t understand, is why a person like that would not seek help? It’s a mystery to me, and IMO the vilest crime that exists.

this man needs to be hung in prison by every inmate that the warden would allow to hang him and smother hime to death. As for the mother she should have the same reward the man gets except before they hang both of them they should burn them worms out there hair. And i am an afro american speaking they are sick people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!God bless this beautiful little girl who is defintely in heaven now she didnt deserve this.

I suspect a lot of lonely vulnerable single mothers are victims of drug dealers who find pimping other peoples children makes them more money than drugs. The government needs to keep a close eye on mothers who neglect their children whose house is a pigsty. Chances are there is also a demon lurking in the house abusing kids. The mothers are too drugged to notice. We as a community must be aware of neglectfull parents.

michelle–It really angers me that this mother would sell her daughter like that. I seriously doubt she thought Shaynia would be murdered–although she was sentencing her to a life worse than death. I agree there is no torture great enough for the man that raped and killed Shaynia or her mother.

    Maria–

I agree. Unfortunately, it takes a lot to remove a child from his parents. For some reason the parents usually get the benefit of the doubt and a whole bunch of chances before their child is taken away. Then, there’s the problem with foster care. Sometimes the child is almost as bad off in foster care as he was with his parent.

Mystery, this crime is too horrid, and evil to even think about. Someone let this beautiful child down. Children’s Protective Services should NEVER allowed any children to live in that filthy, drug infested dump. The neighbors should have reported this mother, and the father (and my heart breaks for him) should have GONE INSIDE to see exactly the condition of where/what kind of place his little girl would be staying. Also, her school should have phoned the father when she dropped out of kindergarden.

Nothing will bring this precious child back; but I pray to God in Heaven that it will be a LESSON for divorced, or people sharing visits with children. I feel sure that this is not the first child this filthy creep has hurt, and I just pray that LE gets more info. from him. SUCH EVIL!

I agree. There were a lot of links broken in the chain of protection around this particular child. The school link is particularly troublesome. Did the school not have a number to contact this father? If they did, how did they let that much time go by without calling him?

We generally assume our children are safe in school. Maybe that’s a false security. I’m not knocking schools. Teachers are over extended and overworked. They spend their own money when school funds fall short. But, every teacher takes attendance and turns that roll call into the office. Some clerical person has the job of recording those records. After so many days, someone checks on the child. Did that happen here?

Something more than beating the hell out of the man needs to happen, and I think it will. He may have been out of jail by some lucky break or negligent judge for his other crimes, but there won’t be a break for him on this one. Sadly, a child had to die before this man is permanently taken off the streets.

    catrice–

I agree with you. People that hurt children are the lowest of the low. Her mother may not have sucked the life out of her, but she might as well have. I keep reading that drugs make you do desperate things, and the mother was either on drugs or owed money for drugs–not an excuse, IMO. The instinct to protect your own child should be greater than your fear for yourself. I know that’s an easy thing to say from the sidelines, but that’s what I think.

This story really has done something to me.. I find myself thinking of the hell that must have put that precious little baby thru.. and it makes me sick and so very sad.. I am trying to have understanding about this.. about addiction.. I know that NO ONE asks to be an addict.. I know that some people use drugs recreationally and really don’t expect to just be addicted one day.. they cant stop.. and dont know how to get themselves out of the situation they find they are in.. But what this girls mother did.. I am afraid other addicted mothers have done the same.. Its heartbreaking… and If we dont do something about the drug epidemic that is claiming the lives of these mothers.. I am afraid little Shaynia will not be the last victim..

But I really have to wonder about this father.. I know he did not kill her… or give her to a rapist.. but, I find it hard to believe, NO ONE NOTICED AN ADDICT… Why was he taking care of Shaynia for the last 5yrs… CAUSE SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH HER MOTHER!!!! SHE COULDNT CARE FOR HER… and if he wasnt around the mother quite often…to see her changing or getting better… why would he make such an important decision to let the mother TAKE THAT PRECIOUS BABY FOR FIVE WEEKS!!!!! based on what????…What gave him the impression that after 5yrs.. SHE WAS ABLE TO CARE FOR THE BABY NOW????? I dont get that…. AT ALL…

Neecee–This story has done something to a lot of people, me included. I can’t get the video of that monster carrying that sweet baby onto the elevator, her hand on his shoulder. It makes me ill.

I agree, no one ASKs to be an addict HOWEVER, all addicts made, at some point in their lives, the decision to do drugs. You’d have to be living under a rock at the bottom of the ocean to not know the risks of drug taking. That means, that they took that risk of their own free will. Nobody else to blame but themselves.

That said, I think that there should be mandatory programs for pregnant addicted mothers to help them get off and stay off drugs. There should be SERIOUS follow-ups to make sure they are not on drugs. If the program fails, or the mother refuses to stay clean, the baby should be removed at birth and the other children should be taken from the home. Period. No second chances.

I believe more mothers than not love their children and such a strict punishment might (I said might) be a deterrent. Of course, this type of program could never happen in this country–It’s not politically correct…..

As for the Dad, I have been loathe to say anything about him because he is so obviously grief-stricken. He has stated publicly that he blames himself for this tragedy. I don’t think anybody could have anticipated this outcome.

This is torrible!!! I can’t believe this man would do this to a beautiful, innocent little girl. The mother should be held responsible as well as the man. It just shows how much she cared for her child. Many people are not blessed as others to have children. The ones who are blessed should be thankful everyday because some can’t. The lord will handle both of them if they are not handled here!!!! To the father you are in my prayers!!!!!

I believe that the mother of Shania Davis knew she was going to be killed when that creep carried her daughter out the front door. They found her favorite blanket with feces on it in a neighbors trash. She was getting rid of evidence then. What she didn’t anticipate is that he had plans on taking her to a motel and getting his face and hers on national news. I would bet my check she let him do whatever he wanted to do with that baby in her trailer house. When a baby or small child is raped or sodimized it’s common to injure them internally. I think she wanted him to get rid of her so she would not have to deal with the possibility of having to explain why her body was in the condition he left it in. She permitted this and she let him walk out the door with her, she waited and then call 911 to report that her daughter might have walked out the door, “ you know she know how to open the door”. She knew who had her baby and did not tell the police, maybe if she had of this pus pocked could have been apprehended and this baby might have been saved. However I would hope they would not give her back to the father who made the fatal error of putting his child in the hands of pure evil.
