The real reason Casey Anthony could be convicted–and it has nothing to do with the Salem Witch Trials
“The fact that she’s been pilloried in the press … I would liken this, Meredith, to the Salem witch trials,” Lyon said.
“The intense media scrutiny here has made it, as far as I can see, virtually impossible to get a fair trial.”
Lyon went on to say,
“She didn’t kill her kid.”
When Vieira asked, “You’re absolutely sure without a doubt?”
“I’m sure…..There’s not even any evidence that this was a homicide, let alone any evidence tying her to it.“
Lyon said that no one should be subjected to the “barbaric” death penalty.
This is just…just…..I’m sputtering here….unbelievable!
First of all, that baby was found in a trashbag with duct tape over her mouth. Pretty sure that’s convincing evidence that she didn’t die in her sleep from natural causes. As far as evidence tying Casey to her death…..
I’m going to tell you a true story that happened to my family last week. Our son and his little family have a pet pug named Bruce Lee the Wonder Dog. Well, Bruce went out to go the bathroom Friday night around 8:00, and within 5 minutes he had disappeared. The kids bundled up their baby and went looking for him in the dark for 2 hours. The next day they were both basket cases. They looked for him before work and my husband and I made fliers and went over later to let their neighbors know. When we got there, my daughter-in-laws Dad was already on the scene going door-to-door. We called all the vets in town, the radio stations, and put ads in the local paper. We went to the pound and put up fliers offering a reward anywhere and everywhere we could think of. We were literally sick at heart. Sunday, we got a call that turned out to be the one neighbor that didn’t answer the door when we were passing out fliers in the area. Her grandson said he was “pretty sure it’s your dog.” I went to check it out, and it was Bruce–with a badly broken front leg. The neighbor said, “Well, we thought it might be their dog because we had seen him around their house–but, I think I’ll take that reward.” (That’s a post on it’s own. I’m still angry that the NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR, who more than likely hit the dog with their car and kept him in their house all weekend when he needed help, TOOK THE REWARD, too!) Bruce has at this moment cost our kids over $1000.00 in vet bills, and it’s still not certain he will have use of that leg again because of the length of time between the break and the surgery…. But, I digress)
The point of my story is that our family was more distressed over a dog than Casey Anthony was over her own baby! What there is no evidence of, Ms. Lyon, is that Casey Anthony even tried to look for Caylee, and there certainly is no evidence that she would ever have alerted authorities that her daughter was missing if Cindy Anthony had not forced her hand. Her conflicting “explanations” after she was caught (when she bothered to provide explanations) about what happened to Caylee and why she didn’t call the police, have all proved to be false.
If it is that distressing to lose a pet, how much more distressing should it be to lose your child!! Ms. Lyon can proselytize all she wants. She can put on her sad face and say WHATEVER about her “innocent” client, but if the fact that Casey Anthony didn’t report her daughter missing for 31 days is allowable evidence (which it is), there is no jury in the world that won’t convict her, whether they are familiar with the case or not–and it won’t be because she was vilified in the press, and it won’t be because she’s the victim of mass hysteria by the public like in the Salem Witch trials, and it won’t be because there isn’t any evidence that the child was murdered at all. It will be (along with very strong evidence, circumstantial or otherwise) because Casey Anthony, mother of Caylee Anthony, daughter of George and Cindy Anthony, decided for whatever reason, be it intentional or accidental, that she would just go on with her life like nothing ever happened when Caylee seemingly vanished from the face of the earth. She didn’t report her daughter missing, Cindy did. Everything Casey did from the moment she made that decision points to her guilt, and there is just no way around that no matter how good a lawyer you perceive yourself to be.
And another thing, if you don’t want this case smeared all over the television and the internet, there’s a simple way to remedy that—DON’T TALK ABOUT IT!!
