Leonard Padilla–American hero, or media monger?

February 5, 2010

Shades of Casey Anthony!  Will Leonard Padilla post the bond on Misty Cummings $1.35 million dollar bail?   It’s a mystery to me! It’s obvious from the jailhouse video above  that Misty doesn’t have the ice in her veins Casey Anthony has.  No nerves of steel  there.  Take away her hope of getting out on bail, and what do you get?  Maybe the truth now that she has something to lose.

Mark Nejame said last night on Nancy Grace that Padilla should stay out of it, stick to what bounty hunters do best, and let the detectives do their jobs.   If Misty thinks she can possibly get out, she will not have any incentive to talk to detectives.

But wait!  Misty’s “Get Out of Jail” card comes with strings attached.  Leonard will free the little bird–only if she sings like a canary.  Tell where Haleigh is and you’re outta there, Misty!   Does she really hate her little cage bad enough to reveal what she knows in order to fly the coop?  Probably not, although she might lie and offer Leonard a carrot in order to free herself.

Does Leonard’s latest shenanigans make him Haleigh’s knight in shining armor–the rider on the white horse–the hero of the story?  IMO the answer is, no. All it really means is that Leonard has managed to find his way back into the news with his “generous” offer–and more importantly back on the air with Nancy Grace.  Are his motives altruistic as he would have us believe? I-don’t-think-so!! More than likely the truth is he’s had a taste of how warm and fuzzy the heat of the national spotlight feels and wants to get that feeling back at any cost.

Oh let’s face it…he’s no longer a regular on Nancy Grace, he’s not hardly mentioned in any blogs, he’s old news and forgotten.

Now he can resurrect himself in the media by the mere mention of possibly helping bond Croslin out.

Whatever lets you sleep at night, Mr. Padilla.

Hey Mystery! I agree with you about LP. I said last night I wish he would just buy himself a lifetime supply of cinnamon toothpicks and ride on back to CA. 😆 I was being serious though. NeJame is right! A former investigator for OCSO has said LP just likes his face in front of a camera and I agree. Misty’s lawyer is quoted today as saying he advises against it, but I don’t know if she’ll listen. I don’t trust her to tell the truth and I don’t trust him to discern if she is telling the truth. He just wants the attention, and needs to go home. Misty is right where she needs to be. JMO.

if lp bonds misty out, i feel that it will slap him in his mouth. i would advise him to quit the habit of sucking on he has a habit of talking out of both sides of his mouth. just wants the limelight. misty needs to stay where she is. her agonizing feelings(boo-hoo) about being in that place MIGHT just make her talk. i surely hope so, for the sake of precious haleigh. “if you don’t wanna do the time don’t do the crime” simple as that.

Sounds like Misty has herself a good lawyer–unlike some we know 😉
Let’s hope she takes his advice, although as badly as she wants out of jail I doubt she will.

I think she is more likely to tell the truth in jail than she is to tell the truth to Padilla outside of jail.

LP should untie his trusty steed from that hitching post and head out of town.

Secretly, I think he misses the make-up and the spotlight on the NG show and wants back on.

IMO….NG will eventually come around to him and boy he’ll be wooping it up and once again,
    he’ll be in his glory.
He so wants to be that Knight in Shining Armor that he’s missed for so long.

If Misty wants out…..then she should put up or shut up. But will she be telling the truth or just placating LE?

I used to think Lenny’s heart was in the right place, but now I’m convinced he’s nothing more than a media slut. Drives me up the wall… Misty will NOT tell the truth to him or anybody else. She’ll sing whatever dimwitted song she thinks he wants to hear, just to get herself outta jail, then she’ll track down her drug dealer to get her next fix. Let her rot, Lenny…stay in Cali with your chihuahua and stop chasing after fame. It DOESN’T like you.

I like LP (sorry). As much as we all wanted Casey to tell the truth when he baled her out, it just wasn’t going to happen with such a habitual liar, raised by liars, however, we did find out some details from the Anthony camp that we would not have known if not for LP and his crew, such as Casey taking a shower (a very long one) with Cindy in the bathroom with her, only to emerge with the J. Blanchard park abduction b.s.. We would not have gotten the (no reaction) from Casey when they searched the lake, but then a total reaction when they searched where the body really was. Casey playing the seven dust song over and over about a soul she left behind, beneath the water. The immaturity of Casey wanting to wear matching watches with Tracy. I will think of some more later to add. JMO

Hopefully, Misty’s lawyers won’t let her accept his offer. She needs to stay where she is.

    Hey eggy!

I didn’t know Lenny had a chihuahua! lol. I still think Lenny is a likable character–I just don’t think his motives are exactly pure. I think his motives are completely self-serving this time around.

Those are some very good points, Diana! You are right- we learned a lot thanks to Tracy. We wouldn’t have had nearly so much insight into Casey and Cindy if they hadn’t bonded her out.

I’m not so sure that will happen with Misty, though. For one thing she has to agree to tell him where Haleigh is in order for him to bond her out of jail. Not much chance of her doing that, IMO. Leonard has to know that Misty isn’t going to tell him where Haleigh is, therefore, his big announcement was media driven. There was no other purpose to it that I can see.

From what I understand…Misty not only has to tell where Haleigh is but he wants to find her dead or alive before he bails her out…so she had best stop the blubbering and get used to that little cell…it won’t be anytime soon that she can expect to be out.
The bail is for the drug case…if he were to find Haleigh…that would be a separate case and they would then charge her with that crime and that would be a separate bond…so unless he is prepared to cough up another hundred thousand or so….she stays..JMO.

Mystery, I just remember him saying a time or twenty (on NG) that he told Casey, “I didn’t fly 3000 miles to Or-Lawn-doh, and leave my chihuahua at home to be lied to. Now tell me where is Caylee!!” And we all know how that conversation ended… The image of him with a chihuahua cracks me up to this day…. 😆

My main problem with him this go-round is that he wants any info Misty tells him to be protected under client privelege. That means we wouldn’t hear any of it. None of the helpful-type stuff that came out in the Anthony case that Diana pointed out earlier. That’s my prob with Lenny’s plans…it just makes me think its a media blitz, is all…

I would LOVE to see a photo of Leonard with his chihuahua!! I have heard him mention it more than once…he must really love the little thing. (He can’t be too bad if he loves animals!) I just think he has a big ego, and enjoys the media attention that he gets.(Wonder if he knows Jay J. Armes? I love him..haha Reminds me of James Bond.) I just pray he finds Baby Gabriel!

Someone plz tell me what is so bad about LP? He has a good heart and is within legal limits by his offer. Did anyone hear his side? I did and think he is doing justice by his offer. Like he said, many wont talk to LE but they will to others. He himself insisted on her lawyer be involved totally with this one If… he is asked. Notice.. the If ?

Plz no anger or losing friends for my comment but I just dont see where the guy is so bad.. He has enough $$ to be on TV 24/7 if he was a media whore.. dont think thats the case here at all. The man knows what he doing.

    Hi Mand!

Yes, I agree with you. Two separate issues. Even if it wasn’t, she’ll never cave. If she hasn’t by now, she’s not going to–unless she gets so crazy in jail that she tells prosecutors the truth thinking she’ll get out.

You don’t have to worry about that here. You’re entitled to disagree. I originally felt that way about Lenny, too. Actually, I still like him. He’s a lovable character–but, I also still think he’s a media monger.

Thanks for ur response Mystery.. Even if he is a media monger?? what is wrong with that as long as he is a decent person.. When he is on the media roles.. He still seems to respect the laws as they are,,, not what he is trying to direct.

Maybe, Im a tad niave here, but seems that hes a man with clout that is trying to help in any way possible.. Thanks again for your input and thoughts.. It sure helps knowing others views that are much more educated on this than I am.. Thanks again Mystery .

Well, I can’t speak for anyone else, but for sure my particular views are no more educated than anyone elses on here. 😀

You are right–what’s wrong with him being a media monger if that’s what it takes to get results, and what’s wrong with him helping if he can?–The answer is nothing, unless it interferes with the investigation.

The issue here is he has not been successful in what he tried in the Anthony case. He puts himself out there looking for all the publicity he can achieve….LE does not need a one horse show…let them do their jobs…LP is a Bounty Hunter….he should be out doing what he does…leave the rest to LE…don’t screw this one up as he did KC’s case.
LP may have some money but not to buy the amount of time he gets for free by inserting himself in this high profile case.
    No hard feelings…JMO.

lol Egg – it is funny to imagine this imposing guy with his little chihauhua!
I like LP too. always have. he does have a big heart & he does a lot in his community for children & others down on their luck. Yes, he is a media hound, he even admits that. If he can get misty to talk (and prove it)before doing anything for her, then that’s a different story. I didn’t know those were the terms originally.

As far as being protected under client priviledge, I think that is standard procedure for these guys. PI (D. Casey) is protected for his time working with baez (he’s really screwing with that priviledge). Anyway, LP asked Baez to pay him 1.00 (yes, One dollar) when he was getting casey out. He would have been under client priviledge as he would have been working for baez. Baez said NO. It would have been to Baez’s advantage for him to be under that priviledge, LP would not have been able to go on tv or anywhere & talk about everything that went on! and I still think that LP & Tracy know more than what was released in those depo’s, I don’t think we got the complete depos.

Im confused about CMA trial.. why on earth has it already been almost 2 years since she killed that baby and is relaxing in jail without any punishment other than keeping CMA from partying.
What makes this case so “important” to treat a common murderer like shes waiting for a bus !!? Is her attorney really that good? or the system that bad?

Way to many excuses to let this go on as long as its has.

Lp is as human as most ppl !! He tried to find Caylee !! All the guy had to go on was Caseys lies ..,, he went ahead and hired black water divers at his own expense to do searches for this mamied liars child. He took the ill remarks like a Man and did what anyone wouldve done if.. money wasnt an issue. Thankful for LPs opinons thruout this meesed up case.

It does seem like an awfully long time, and I think perhaps the problem lies in the defense’ ineptness or maybe just by their design.

I don’t have any statistics on that, but I guess the most famous trial I can think of would be OJ Simpson’s. Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were murdered on June 12, 1994. OJ was arrested several days later. The actual trial began January 24, 1995–not even a year later.

Of course, Caylee wasn’t declared a victim of murder officially until after her body was discovered in December 08– 5 months after she was reported missing. Still, it’s now been a year and 4 months and will be at least another year before it even makes it to trial.

unacceptable IMO. There ought to be some sort of legislation to keep this senseless drain of taxpayers money from happening ever again.
