Casey’s broke and it ain’t no joke according to Jose Baez latest motion

March 5, 2010

Jose Baez filed a motion Friday asking Judge Strickland to declare Casey Anthony indigent for costs.  This means she’s broke and can’t pay for her defense.   She has already paid $111,954.00–almost 90,000 to Baez and the rest to Lyon (who is supposedly working for free). It’s not known how Casey has managed to pay that amount.

Baez said Casey was willing to pay for her defense–until the state put the death penalty back in play.  Because of that, she can no longer cover the expense because a case like hers can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars what with the potential witness and experts living all around the country.

Baez has asked the state to cover the cost of depositions, transcripts,, investigators, legal research, expert witness fees, medical or mental exams, travel expenses and any other costs the defense might have now and in the future.

If  Judge Strickland okays this motion, the Florida taxpayers will have to pay for the defense costs–but not the defense fees. (whatever that means)

The State of Florida has more than $14 million set aside this year to pay for indigents. (Well, by all means, give the bulk of it to Casey Anthony!)

read it here:

Well, this just pisses me off beyond words.  It’s a mystery to me where these people get their nerve and their sense of entitlement!  If she’s indigent then let her have the same type of attorney the rest of the people that can’t afford to pay for a lawyer have–a state appointed one.  Bye-bye Baez.  Bye-bye Lyon.  Of course, we know that won’t happen.

I think I feel a migraine coming on….

    Hi Mystery,
Believe me, I am just as pissed off as you about this! I know Fla. tax payers must be LIVID!! This latest SCAM is just something all of the grifters have been planning for ages!IMAGINE what it will cost the tax payers to pay the Dream Team…

Honest, hard working people of Fla. should not have this burden! This is disgusting! Do the other murderers have Dream Teams…no, they are appointed attys. It should be the same with Casey!!

The only reason the Anthonys are allowing their house to be “foreclosed” is they have some kind of plan in mind…I think they are waiting for the American people to feel “pity” for them, and just are waiting for the checks to start rolling in. Believe me, some people are foolish enough to do it!

Baez, the Anthonys, and the rest of that scuzzy bunch are SHAMEFUL! Guess they’ll be peddling Caylee’s little toys and clothes next!

mystery, couldn’t agree withyou more. bozo blames the state(state put death penalty back on table) well, boo-hoo , guess what bozo, KC put the death penalty on the table! DUH! i feel sorry for the taxpayers of florida. i still maintain that the foreclosure was planned. devious, evil people. i am pointing my finger at the anthonys, the duh-fense, and after listening to video of pepitone, the media as well. they cannot, for the life of them, figure out where kc got the $ to pay bozo. that is an insult to my intelligence. these idiots all need to get a grip! boy, am i glad we still have kathi and bs. thank God for small favors.

It’s all part of the same plan, IMO. This has been very carefully orchestrated–the Anthonys’ house in foreclosure and Casey is indigent all within the same couple of weeks. How can Judge Strickland refuse? Her family can’t help her….

I suppose this would mean that people like Dominic Casey (who hasn’t been paid by Baez) would receive state funds?

I agree with you midget–It’s an insult to our intelligence to say no one knows where the money came from. It’s also outrageous to now ask the state to pay for all the ridiculous attention seeking attorneys and experts that Baez dragged into the mix.

Hey Mystery! I’m never at a loss for words for these people, but I’m thinking the foreclosure thing last week was a play, and yes they worked on it a while, but these people aren’t destitute. Sickening, but not destitute. I read the new info to Hubby earlier and he was as livid as we are, we are tax paying Floridians and we have a business, so yes our tax dollars are involved and it makes me sick! I pray that Judge Strickland looks at all the facts, and says NO!, or at the very least, then take a public defender. Poor Caylee.

Hey niecey–I think it was a play, too–a play right into the hands of Jose Baez to help with his indigent motion. No way will he allow himself to be removed from the case to make way for a public defender–who will then steal his thunder. (and probably do a heck of a lot better job)

I agree with you Mystery its all a plan, I think when Lyons came onboard they stopped paying there house payments so that when the foreclosure hit they could declare Casey indigent. Question, what happened to all George and Cindy’s monies that were made from there tv apperances? Better look at offshore accounts when they went on there cruise.

lol, LVSusie! I hadn’t thought of that.

What shear GAUL of these people…….Pissed isn’t the word…….Screaming mad…..

So Casey was willing to pay for her defense until the State put the DP back on the table???? Did I actually read that……or are my eyes playing tricks here……HOW DARE SHE……this
is nothing but a BRIBE, THREAT OR whatever you want to call it….another words …..take away the DP and I will pay the money.
Also if Lyons is working for FREE…..why is she getting a chunk of the money??

I assume Lyon is working for free, but her expenses are being paid. I also suspect that because the trial has been pushed out a year, the costs will skyrocket. They don’t have that many pictures they can sell…..

    Continued…..from above…..
Well, well…..with the foreclosures which came out last week……we shoulda seen this coming.
Conway auctioned his condo, DC his house, the Anthonys crying NO MONEY TO PAY MORTGAGE……and now this crapola hitting the newswaves.
All that was so very planned so is this……

They brought in experts from timbuctoo and thereabouts, making trips here and there for their media exposure on ABC, CBS, NBC and other networks….claiming the innocence of Miss
Hoity Toity and they want the State to foot the bill…..what HUGE b**ls….gold plated too.
Anthonys tatts and cruise came from someone’s pocket book……but whose?
Oh….and where did that cruise ship head to? South to Cayman’s ?
Nothing they did or will do in the future will ever shock me.

These people are living with a champagne taste on a beer pocketbook.
They totally disgust me…..every single one of them.

I hope they are reading these comments too, but knowing them they are laughing up their
    collective sleeves.

Stated perfectly–they are living with champagne taste on a beer pocketbook–Hasn’t that been their lifelong problem?

  10. March 5, 2010 10:42 pm

LVSusie, good point, I didn’t make that connection, Lyon’s coming on board, then they quit making house payments. YEP! There is obviously a correlation! You also post an interesting question, what did those Scamthony’s do with all that money? They are under contract too GA stated in his deposition with NBC or ABC, I don’t remember which.

YEP! Baez knew we would be “pissed,” that’s why the spineless POS filed it at 5:00 on a Friday Afternoon. I surely hope Bill Sheaffer “weighs in his legal opinion on this.”

This ENTITLEMENT of this whole pack of SCUMBAG Anthony’s makes me furious. WHY is KC entitled to a FREE DEFENSE with “high profile attorney’s that have bilked it for everything they can get out of it? This is UNFAIR to the Taxpayer’s of FLA.

Does that mean that this was Lyon’s idea? Hmm.

If I lived in Florida I would be calling the courthouse and voicing my opinion very strongly. Yes, declare her indigent–but with a caveat–only if she gets rid of her attorneys and is assigned a public defender.

Well, the only way to really voice your anger and frustration is to have another round of protests. Sign in hand, people in Fl should protest in front of Baez’s office. It would be on the news and expose this freak !!!!

Maybe phone calls and emails to Judge Strickland’s office would be better. I would hate to see the stone throwers that stood in front of the Anthonys’ house going at it again. I thought that was really awful.

lona1, I think we can all agree that even a skank like KC deserves fair representation. BUT! The arrogance of KC & Baez from the beginning of this case has been appalling, as though they saw themselves as “celebrities.” Remember the picture of KC “high fiving Lee” win they got past reporters on their way to the jail?

The press release put out by Lyon’s school saying something like, “it was expensive to try to protect KC from the STATE that “is trying to take her life.” lona1, this sent me right into orbit. WHY is it that they so “carefully craft their words to ALWAYS omit that KC is being charged with the MURDER of her innocent child?” John Walsh stated this week that he was not an advocate for the Death Penalty,BUT, this case is one that “calls for it.” He predicts also that KC will get her due.

What ever in the world happen to people accused of heinous crimes that are truly guilty, just “doing the right thing instead of trying to get away on a technicality?” I know I am wishful thinking. HAD my daughter done this, she is KC’s age, from the very beginning I would have gotten her an attorney, & said, “Beg for the best deal you can get, spend your time in jail thinking of what you have done & learn how to become a better person.” imo, there never was another choice as a parent.

The keyword is “fair” representation. What is fair? IMO it’s the best representation you can afford. If you are indigent, that would be a public defender.

thats is the outraged true,i feel sorry for the taxpayers!!

This judge will not deny this motion,” WFTV-Channel 9 analyst Bill Sheaffer predicted.

The notion that taxpayers would have to help pay for Anthony’s defense might outrage some readers. But Sheaffer predicted the change would speed up the case because the state would have more control. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

WFTV anchor Liz Artz this morning said the station had learned Anthony is keeping her legal team instead of getting a state-appointed attorney. But Artz offered no details.

This may speed up the whole thing but it’s not fair. Casey Anthony is keeping her legal team and at the same time wants to not pay for it? Isn’t that just the best of both worlds…

I hope Bill Sheaffer is wrong on this one.

I am very confused! Casey didn’t have a pot to p!ss in when she was arrested…… how has she paid nearly 112 THOUSAND dollars for her defense??? Thx. kh

blood money, my dear. blood money.

  17. March 6, 2010 10:15 am

khintx, because in the beginning of the case, Baez/KC sold pictures & videos of Caylee, (her sweet memories,)& received monies as “licensing fees,” EXCEPT, it was a lot more money than the 112,000.00 they are claiming. If I an not mistaken, it was rumored to be about $250,000.00. I will have to go back & check to see.

mikka, thanks for the heads up on Bill Sheaffer. I am going there now to hear what he has to say. It is easy to see, as Mr. Sheaffer said, the case will move along faster & the STATE will have more control because thus far, Baez has only done a few depositions. They cost a “ton of money” to do, involve a court stenographer, then all the copies, & the list goes on. Because Baez had “drug his feet on the depositions due to the cost,” he now is faced with depositions of over 100 STATE witnesses.

Not long ago, Sheaffer predicted this was “exactly the problem of this defense team,” an indication of no money as he said, “you can’t pick & choose which witnesses to depose.”

Yes he did predict that, didn’t he. Hopefully Strickland will rule on this soon. Also, I hope he puts the kibosh on some of the insanity.

I still find it odd that Cindy and George took a cruise last Oct. there had to be more of a reason than just to get away from the media. I think this was all orchestrated by Lyon when she came onboard. I read in the statues that if Casey was claimed on the Anthony’s taxes that they can be held responsible for her costs. I would like to see there past taxes to see if they claimed both Casey and Caylee. And what happened to all the monies that they have made?
Another question, what about any movie or book deals the Anthony’s have in the works would they have to pay the state back if they claimed Casey as a dependent?
    Just not buying it!

I hadn’t thought about the tax thing! I would like to see if the Anthony’s claimed Casey in 2008. I don’t know if it would matter if they did in 2007?

I wonder if the cruise, tats, and earrings were staged so that they would “appear” to have blown all their money.

I have to say that I’m not completely convinced George and Cindy aren’t cash-poor. There may be contracts for future deals, but I don’t see a lot of money coming in right now. I don’t think they are broke by any means, but I don’t know that they have a lot of cash stashed either. Their history shows that money has a way of slipping through their fingers.

LVSusie, trying to find out about the Anthony’s Tax Returns has been as difficult as finding out “who Caylee’s father is.” I don’t know how we could find this out unless KC “took the STAND in her own defense & that is not likely.” The STATE could have ASK CA/GA the very question you have LVSusie, but, the STATE isn’t interested in the “financial interest” in the Civil Suit, they may not have seen this as important in the murder case. I too would like to know what’s up.

Isn’t it sad that Caylee’s grand parent’s have lied repeatedly on National TV about Caylee sighting, lied in numerous other ways even CA claiming to have made some of the GOOGLE searches. Even their attorney is willing to “lie & support the deception surrounding KC.” Isn’t it just sad that we have seen Caylee’s grand parent’s willing to live off her murder instead of having jobs, seeing themselves “as celebrities,” the list is endless. Some peeps want to argue how “much they loved Caylee,” but imo, when an innocent child is murdered at the hands of her mother, someone in the family needs to stand up for the VICTIM that cannot speak for themselves.

LVSusie, remember when CA said “they can’t understand why they are so hated?” We can’t even TRUST that they are really having “financial problems with their home in foreclosure” they have proven to be such scam artist. Just Sad!

arttart, you just gave a pretty good summary of exactly why the Anthonys are hated and then some.

Would people feel less incensed about Casey using indigent funds if she had gone that route from day 1?

With the bottom falling out this far into the game, shows again that Baez is not on top of HIS game. He continues to look foolish.

I would be less incensed if she had done that from day 1 because that would mean there would be no “Scheme” team surrounding her now. It means a public defender would have probably made a deal with the prosecution a long time ago in the best interest of his client, rather than in the best interest of himself and his career.

    Love your title Mystery 😆

As much as it sickens me to say this…keeping Baez will actually cost the State of Florida less than if a public defender had to start from scratch.

Baez is not willing to give up the lime-light…you can bet that he thinks he will get lots of $$$ when this is all over. Lets hope that if the media choses to make a movie that it is done like the stage production in Australia…with NO proceeds going to the Ants etc.

If the State has to pay for depositions that Baez takes [there are hundreds yet to be taken] his long windedness will ensure that he still receives a substantial amount of money. I hope I am wrong about this…does anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks, Jill.

I dunno……what exactly has Baez done so far other than write a bunch of motions and hire a bunch of people? I’m not so sure it would cost more for a public defender to take over at this point. I think it might possibly be a lot cheaper in the end.

    Hugs ♥♥♥

  24. March 7, 2010 9:09 am

Ideas, imo, the “grand standing” this Defense has done, including all “high profile experts, LK Baden, etc.” all of which were successful in their own right & could have chosen to do this high profile case & all the free publicity pro bono if they had wanted to. ALL of the team members are “sucessful in their own right EXCEPT Baez. They certainly “don’t owe KC anything,” Baez is the one that called them to be involved. KC has a contract with LK Baden & a contract with Baez. I assume, the Baez Law Firm has hired the others involved. The thing is, smirking & parading the Circus around Orlando for photo opts is one thing, BUT, when the group showed up at the “Remains sight & did a photo opt,” it made me sick!

Jill, my Aussie friend, you got that right, Baez isn’t going to give up on this high profile case as he clearly intends on generating monies for himself after the trial is over.

KC NEVER had the ability to pay for this trial, even before it was a Death Penalty Case & Baez didn’t have the “Capital in his business to finance her defense.” Aussie, there will be a movie, but LIFETIME said they are not “paying anyone as everything is available in the DOC Dumps” & the ending information will come out at trial. Even PEOPLE Mag “cut the ANT’s out” the last time Caylee was on the cover, imo, the ANT’s will be squeezed out. Good Riddance, jmo.

Hi ya Mystery! It is a mystery to me too! 😆 I also hope they get nothing from the state as this is what they deserve. BUT if they do, the people of Florida need to protest! They should also have to disclose all the money they received and where all the money went!

Molly, your sister needs to look into what to do! Maybe she can start with writing to her congress-person! I am fuming that they have even asked! Had they had the trial and not try to make this a “famous” trial, they wouldn’t be running out of the funds. I am working on how things need to be worked so the people don’t have to pay!

I agree. Baez is responsible for this mess.

Casey deserves the same privileges anyone in this country is entitled to–the right to an attorney even if you can’t afford one and the right to be innocent til proven guilty in a court of law. It does not give you the right to hire the most expensive defense team you can find even if you can’t afford it or the right to suck every dime possible out of the taxpayers of Florida.

There are other truly indigent people that also have the right to a defense. Casey does not deserve to take more than her fair share from the fund that bankrolls those cases. If there is “hidden” money an effort should be made to uncover it, and if there is no money, then she should have the same public defender that any other indigent in the state of Florida is entitled to. Fair is fair.

Friends of ours who have longed for a baby for many years had the prayers answered 8 weeks ago when they adopted a little girl. The baby was born with a bowel obstruction and had several surgeries while in the hospital.

They finally brought their little angel home 2 weeks ago. Within a few days she was sick and throwing up bile and rushed back to the hospital. She had another surgery and more of her intestine was removed.

This morning she was rushed back into surgery and we don’t know her status at this moment.

A call for prayer has gone out from the hospital and I’m asking for your help. I believe in the power of prayer and I believe God answers prayers.

Please pray for our friends and their beautiful baby girl.
