Is the mystery of what happened to Haleigh Cummings about to come to an end?

April 13, 2010

Haleigh Cummings

UPDATE:  According to the St. Augustine News, Joe Overstreet was interviewed late last night with his attorneypresent.  After about 45 minutes, he was released and returned home.

read it below:

Is this the week that Haleigh Cummings will be found?   A large group of divers and cadavar dogs are searching a part of the St. Johns River.   The divers, dogs, and police officers are going over the area off County Road 309, including the river and woods on either bank.  The area being searched is around Shell Harbour Road, and this is very close to the Magnolia Drive house that Misty Croslin’s parents lived in when Haleigh went missing.  Lt. Johnny Greenwood from the PCSO, said the area had not been searched before.

Putnam County Sheriff, Jeff Hardy would not elaborate on why they are searching now, or what they are looking for. (although, what appeared to be a blue ice chest was seen being pulled by divers from the river) Hardy said the search will continue “as long as it takes” and he will release information as it becomes available.

The sheriff did say that he gathered Haleigh’s family members, including Ron Cummings, who is incarcerated on drug trafficking charges,  to update them on the search taking place about 5 miles south of Haleigh’s Satsuma home.  Misty Croslin was transported  from her jail cell in St. Johns County to Putnam County where she is also being held on drug trafficking charges, to be interviewed.   Misty Croslin’s mother, Lisa Croslin, confirmed that her daughter was taken to Putnam County but was separated from other members of Haleigh’s family.  She was held alone in a room  before she was returned to St. Johns County.  She said Misty told her by phone that she was not interviewed.

This latest activity around the case may have come from information provided by Misty Croslin, the last person to see Haleigh alive.  Croslin’s attorney, Robert Fields,  said she might have provided information that led to the search. He said Misty may have “shed some light” on who was responsible for Haleigh’s disappearance.

“This latest search was based on information from someone else.   Somebody else has possibly been implicated in this.  You need to look away from Misty.”

Other sources are saying that Tommy Croslin, Misty’s brother is the person who finally decided to come clean and tell what really happened.  He is the one who told authorities where to look for Haleigh.

Joe Overstreet

Although investigators aren’t talking about the nature of this new lead,  Misty Croslin’s father, Hank Croslin Sr., said his mother-in-law told him police have surrounded the Nashville, Tennessee  home where one of their relatives live.  He said he thinks they are waiting for Florida authorities to arrive.   (Someone is now in custody, and according to Art Harris, that someone is Joe Overstreet.)

Joseph Overstreet is who Ronald accused of stealing a gun  just before Haleigh’s disappearance. He was staying with Hank and Lisa Croslin on Magnolia Drive at the time. Misty said that Joe threatened to get revenge on Ronald after the fight about the gun, and in a television interview said that he “has been a criminal all his life”.   He is also the person who supposedly returned a van borrowed from Misty’s sister-in-law with a scratch or dent in it. He is a convicted sex offender.  Overstreet was interviewed and later cleared  by detectives when Haleigh disappeared.

Tina Overstreet, Joe’s mother,  declined to comment when she was reached by phone Tuesday night.  However, she did tell a Nashville TV station, WSMV, that her son was at his home in Antioch. He wouldn’t  talk to reporters,  but she said,

“We have not heard anything from anybody in Florida. I know the little girl is still missing. We’ve not heard anything. My son is at home, not doing anything, bothering nobody. People continue to bother him.”

So, is this it?  Did someone, (Misty) finally crack and tell the truth about what happened to little Haleigh?  Or, is this just another false alarm?  Misty has lied so many times before that I have some major trouble believing she had a “come to Jesus’ moment and just decided to end this  today.   Supposedly she was scared to death because Joe Overstreet threatened her life, and that’s why she kept quiet all this time–at least that’s we’re hearing.  Misty, Tommy, and Joe were all in the house when Joe took Haleigh.  I don’t know if that’s true or not, but  if, for whatever reason,  she (or her brother) knowingly withheld information that would have led  to the discovery of Haleigh’s remains,  they will all  face charges.  Between that and the drug trafficking charges, it might be a very long time before Misty Croslin sees the light of day again.  A fitting punishment for the person who failed miserably in her responsibility to keep two small children safe the night of February 10, 2009?  If Tommy was there too, and these two low-life’s allowed a sex offender (according to Misty, Joe molested her when she was 13)  to take Haleigh and then didn’t immediately call 911,  they all deserve to rot in prison and then hell.

    Morning Niecey,

Tommy and Misty KNEW Joe Overstreet was a sex offender and yet they allowed little Haleigh to leave with him!! Between the two of them, they could have restrained him, or at least phone 911 the second he walked out the door! I find it unbelievable that they did nothing to save Haleigh. My heart goes out to Ronald. I’m sure he would give his life for just 5 mins. with Overstreet. Only God knows what that little child endured before her death. This is a truly shameful situation!

Rest Peacefully in the Arms of God, precious Haleigh…justice will be done.

Have the police taken a lie-detector test of Joe Overstreet, as yet? If not, why not? It has been reported that he had vacated the area, the very same day that Haleigh dissapeared. Seems to fit into the puzzle very easily. Could he have killed her and then quickly left the area? Possibility here, which needs to be checked out for sure, I think.

Art Harris just said on JVM that LE took Misty to the same spot that Tommy Croslin said Overstreet dumped Haleigh’s little body.

Hi Hadley–I agree with your statement that it doesn’t make sense that Misty and Tommy let someone just leave with the little girl and did nothing. Joe Overstreet was interviewed again and released. Misty was taken down to the river for some reason tonight. I wonder if the letter written by Nay Nay (I think) saying that Haleigh got hold of some oxycotin and overdosed is the truth, and Misty had her brother cover for her.

(It’s Mystery not Niecey, but I take being confused with her as a compliment! 🙂

I don’t know if he took a lie detector test, but he has been interviewed on more than one occasion and was released each time. It’s very fishy that he left Satsuma shortly after Haleigh was killed–but, then, Misty could be setting him up. Not sayin’ that’s the case, but anything’s possible with this bunch of lunatics.

It has been said that Joe Overstreet wanted to seek lasting revenge against Ronald, over a fight that they had, by stealing Ron’s beloved gun.

When they couldn’t find the gun, it seems that he decided to spontaneously steal Ron’s other love in life, which was his daughter instead; as the revenge would be just as sweet and lasting. This man was seeking to break Ronald as much as he could, through cruelty and hate. Seems like he has acheived his wish, by using Haleigh as a pawn.

I realize that this scenerio seems a bit strong, but have you ever witnessed an already angry man, not meeting his decided goal? Anger quickly becomes further enragement and frustration, which keeps rational thinking at bay. At this point, either one of two things usually happens; either all action stops and they accept defeat, or then they go into a complete “wild rage” meltdown. Just some thoughts…

Mystery, honest mistake…you and Niecey are two of the nicest, sweetest ladies on the net!

p.s. Nancy Grace made the comment last night that Misty couldn’t get the DP because she was only 17 when this happened. H.

Good points–but, I still wonder about Misty. Misty is the one they drug out to the river, and they let Joe Overstreet go after I believe two earlier interviews and then the one this week. My gut is telling me she did this–probably because she was high as a kite and not watching the children and Haleigh got into something she shouldn’t have and then Misty’s brother and cousin helped her get rid of the body—but, then, I remember Jr. saying a man came in and got Haleigh and I think well, maybe the cousin did take her. I don’t know.

Hey Mystery! This whole gang is a mess. Poor Haleigh didn’t have a chance. I hope they find her. I think they will, or at least enough evidence to prove she’s gone. Let’s hope that dear Misty will get to spend a long, long time in the big house. Maybe if Casey escapes the DP, they can be roomies. That would work well……….They would steal from each other and fight to see who could get the most attention, maybe even just fight and stay in trouble. At any rate they deserve to be miserable.

Hey niecey. I hope they find her top, but I don’t believe they will. It will be a miracle if after all this time in alligator infested water they find any part of her–But, then, it was somewhat of a miracle that Caylee was found, so there’s always hope.

lol–snooty Casey would wish she had gotten the death penalty if she ends up with life–and Misty Croslin as her roommate!

It is interesting reading these blogs about who people think are responsible for Haleigh’s demise.

One cannot make sense out of evil! Why even try? These are people who obviously don’t have remorse or a conscience.

Sadly, the little girl did not have a chance given the environment she was subjected to. And, even Ron needs to be accountable for allowing his children around such bottom feeders as these. We attract certain people to us for a reason. Could they all be mirror images of each other?

The one’s who suffer are the vulnerable, and we as a society need to protect our children from these monsters by becoming more aware of what their behavior looks like. For example: it is an obvious red-flag when we see and hear fighting and raging; mixed with drugs, and having children present. Where was the extended family when all this was supposedly going on? Who was there to protect and care for the children?

Wake-up America. These issues will not go away, but will only grow worse as we sit in denial. There had to have been someone in the extended families to hear and see things no child should witness. It would have been far easier taking the child away when the abuse was occurring then having to call a Medical Examiner, later.

Children are dying at the hands of people who are supposed to protect them. It is their birth-rite to be safe on all levels. Instead of pointing blame; As a society, we need to be asking ourselves: What can I do to help see that no child ends up this way?

Someone in that family should have done something, but they didn’t. Why? Ignorance? Apathy? Drugs? Too busy worrying about their own lives? I don’t know. It appears that we have raised a generation of self-centered, unsympathetic, self-serving individuals who don’t know how to keep their legs closed and their pants zipped, and when the inevitable babies pop out, they don’t view those children as human beings but as possessions. Possessions they can take out their hostilities on, abuse, ignore, or toss out with the garbage.

Magsund: All of Misty’s family, and all of Ron’s family knew Misty was a drug addict. So did all of her friends (who were also druggies)…yet, no one did a thing. Ms. Neves should have done something. So should other family members, or neighbors that knew about the drugs. Yet they did nothing. Children should be taught in school to TELL a teacher, minister, or a friend or neighbor. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. LE knew about the drugs, and they didn’t do anything until it was too late.

When you come up with answers, please share them!

Joe Overstreet’s sister wrote a letter on MarinadeDave’s blog…she is saying Ms. Holler is lying…just wants the money!

Well, that wouldn’t surprise me that Ms. Holler is lying, but I don’t think she is. Tommy’s attorney has confirmed that Tommy called his grandmother.

Kayla, I can certainly understand your wish to defend your brother. The truth will eventually be revealed, and if your brother had nothing to do with Haleigh’s death, he has nothing to worry about.

Let’s just hope that in the middle of all the finger pointing, the police will discover the truth. Obviously, someone is talking or the sheriff wouldn’t have said they have possible evidence from the lake.

Terry Shoemaker, Ronald’s attorney said, Ron put a written request into Sheriff Hardy, to be moved into General Population, and it was granted today (Friday). Terry was *NOT with Ron when LE briefed Ron and his family on Wednesday. *This says a lot* (as of a few months ago, Ron was still standing by Misty) Terry said Ron just want closure now. Profiler says she believes Ron has known for some time that HaLeigh is deceased. Terry said Misty did not make the 911 call until Ron either pulled in the drive way or until Ron made Misty.

Lg Van Leave Late this afternoon (Friday) sources inside the investigation have confirmed that Misty Croslin, was brought back to the scene a third time.

IMAGE is of Misty Croslin leaving in the white SUV.

Please tell me how to post a picture??

    Hi Chris–

I have been a defender of Ron in the past, and I still think he had nothing to do with his daughter’s death, but I have a very difficult time believing that if Joe Overstreet took Haleigh, Misty didn’t tell Ron the truth. On the other hand, if Misty told Ron that Joe did it, I think Ron would have gone after him. That didn’t happen, so I have to think Misty didn’t point the finger at Joe.

So, why wouldn’t she tell Ronald, if Joe did it? The logical explanation would be because Joe didn’t do it. The ONLY reason I can think of as to why Misty has kept quiet all this time is because SHE had something to do with Haleigh’s disappearance.

I don’t think you can post a picture within a comment–at least I don’t know how to do it if you can. You can post the link to the picture.

BTW. I’ve followed your MySpace blog for a long time.

Former FBI agent, Steve Brown, gave an interview with WKMG in which he stated he was the one that provided the tip to the Sheriff’s department that led to the search. Mr. Brown claims that he has been conducting a 10-month long investigation into the disappearance of Haleigh on behalf of Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh’s mother. In the interview with WKMG Mr. Brown definitively stated he knows what happened to Haleigh on February 9, 2009, the night she disappeared.

While Mr. Brown was careful not to reveal any of the specific information he knows, or has shared with the Sheriff’s department, he did make some telling statements during the interview. Mr. Brown does not believe that Ronald Cummings, Haleigh’s father, had anything to do with what happened to her that night. But he could not say the same thing about Misty Cummings, Ronald’s girlfriend at the time and babysitter of Haleigh on the night Misty claims Haleigh just disappeared while Misty slept. In fact, Mr. Brown states: Misty certainly knows what happened in the trailer that night.

Mr. Brown also goes on to state that he believes an arrest is soon to come and while there may be additional people involved in the overall crime (be it the death, or disposal of Haleigh) he states: …but as to who killed Haleigh, that’s not going to be a big surprise.

So, now we have Mr. Brown, Ms. Hollers, and Tommy all saying they were the ones that alerted the police. 🙄

    Thanks for the links.

It could take weeks before the testing on the stuff found in the lake is analyzed. Will they wait until then to make arrests?

Ironically, I think the only person who has ever really told the truth about what happened that night is probably Junior. And, because of his age, what he saw can’t be used in court.

I have been keeping up with all these stories about missing children. First of all I don’t know how anyone could hurt a child. How could they look in there little face and see there pain and as for ever which one that hurt this child and for the ones that allow this to happen they all need to fill Haleigh pain. They all need to rot in hell.As for Misty all the time she new what happen to Haleigh and went on to marry Ronald and went on with her lies and living life as if she was in control she is one common b—-.She is the one Ronald needs to be allowed to get hold of.Rip her head right off her shoulders.Or better yet tie a cinder block to misty and throw her in the river don’t let her drown just before she drowns pull her out let her catch her breath and throw her back again, again and again.God Bless who ever was involved in this because when they go to prison they are going to need it.They would be safer out here on the streets with Ronald.

I know how you feel. It is beyond my understanding how anyone can take out their anger on an innocent child. They are such cowards. They deserve to have the full force of the law coming down on their heads. In a perfect world that would always be the case. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world and these “human beings” (I use the term loosely) will do everything in their power to avoid punishment for their heinous crimes.

Also unfortunately, there is an overabundance of unscrupulous defense lawyers who interpret the law in such a way as to justify using whatever means they might find at their disposal (including trickery and treachery) to get these animals back on the street to wreak havoc another day. They interpret the right of every citizen to have counsel as the right to get them off even when they know they are guilty. These lawyers appear to view their jobs as a game. I don’t know how they sleep at night.

Kayla: thank you for posting about your brother and grandma. We have been following this case along time and we know the ways of your cousin, Misty. We saw the photos of Joe helping her hang HaLeigh missing posters the next day, we know he tried to help get the word out. We also know that Misty says she is terrified of Joe and we have photos that prove that to be a lie also. Your uncle Hank (Senior) has also defended Joe and tried to get Misty to tell the truth, so please don’t bash him – I really feel sorry for him in this whole deal. There are so many rumor going around that people don’t know what to believe … those of us “that have been around can see right through them. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
It’s a Mystery: thank you for your kindness toward Kayla also. You are the one of the few blog sites that I really like to visit – your respect for people posting their opinions, kindness towards others, and utmost professionalism is telling.

The more I hear the more I wonder….Misty is such a liar. I don’t know if Joe is involved–it may very well turn out that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hope that’s the case for Kayla’s sake. She is obviously distraught and cares about her brother a great deal.

I DO think Misty is involved up to her eyeballs. She wouldn’t have kept quiet this long if she wasn’t. After watching her on the “sting” tape where she and Ron were arrested for trafficking drugs, she appeared to be the ringleader in that deal. It will not surprise me if Misty accidentally killed Haleigh and went to Tommy for help. He doesn’t strike me as being overly bright. Misty, on the other hand seems very sneaky.

Thanks for your kind words! I try very hard to show respect for the opinions of the people that read and post here whether we agree or not.

After the group was arrested on the drug sting, Timmy was planning to pay a personal visit from out of state (Massachusetts). We were awaiting his appearance in town, he never showed up. He later stated he was afraid he would be arrested, why would he think that? Is it because HE assisted Misty in hiding the body?
Misty and Tommy continuously throw one another “under the bus” so to speak, I doubt she trusted him as much as her other brother, Timmy.
As we recall, Tommy stated when he arrived at the trailer at approx. 10 p.m., no one was home. A person involved in a crime does not admit to being at the scene, yet Tommy placed himself there on two occasions that day. His first visit was earlier that day when the a/c guy was there.
Who was Misty and the kids with at 10 p.m.? Who has a van, you know, “her blanket was in the van that they took” statement. I just can’t figure out who is “they” and find it coincidental Timmy has a van with a mysterious scratch on it. Timmy’s wife; Chelsea is the one that told LEO about the scratch on the van (why raise suspicions that your vehicle MAY be involved). Chelsea also turned over to LEO Misty’s February letter sent to them (Misty claiming Joe held a knife to her throat when he took HaLeigh, yet we have a photo of Misty and Joe hanging the Amber Alert posters the following day or so). Is it possible that Chelsea has no knowledge of what took place or is this a part of their scheme to frame Joe?
If Joe took the van from their home that evening (Chelsea told LEO it had also been moved) certainly LEO has his fingerprints on the steering wheel (there has been NO mention of him driving the van during his visit).

    Hi Kasey

Somehow I missed the post above your current one. I’m sorry! Now, of course, Misty and Tommy’s parents have joined them in jail…..Honestly, I don’t think we will ever know the truth of what happened to little Haleigh. Ron has agreed to testify against Misty for a deal, but I doubt he will reveal anything that would have to do with Haleigh.

Yes Joe was arrested and has bonded out. His charges are for growing marijuana and parafanalia (spelling?) – minor charges in most places except Tennessee.
Another guy at his house was arrested for the stolen vehicle that was parked in the back yard. It appears they are suspects in an assault/burglary case investigation.
