Ron Cummings in court today–there’s a plea deal in his immediate future.
In a 7 minute court appearance this morning, Ronald Cummings, father of missing 6 year old, Haleigh Cummings, reached a tentative plea deal in the prescription drug-trafficking charges against him and his ex-wife, Misty Croslin, the last person to see Haleigh alive. Ron’s attorney said that he has agreed to offer a plea in 3 of the 5 charges against him. The state may drop the remaining two charges. Ron is scheduled for another court appearance August 20th, giving attorneys time to work out the details. It’s not presently known which of the 5 charges may be dropped.
Misty Croslin’s attorney, Robert Fields, said Cummings’ agreement will not change how her case is handled.
“Ronald’s obviously cutting a deal to testify against her,” he said.
Haleigh’s family is planning at August 10th vigil for her. At that time it will be 18 months since she vanished without a trace.

Will Ron’s plea deal bring Haleigh home? Not likely. I still think we may never know what happened to Haleigh Cummings. The only consolation in all this has been that the main players may well spend the rest of their lives in jail. Lotsa time on their hands to reflect on what they did. Will that bring Haleigh back? No. But in a round about way, justice will still have been served.
