Casey Anthony Trial Day 5

May 28, 2011

Day 5 started out with Cheney Mason attempting to keep Lee Anthony from sitting in the courtroom during the trial. The Judge allowed him in.

Tony Lazzaro

Tony Lazzaro was back on the stand.  He testified that on the night of July 15th, Amy Huizinga and Cindy Anthony came to the door and forced Casey to leave with them. He was shocked.  Lee Anthony came by later that night and got Casey’s computer and a bag of clothes. He was asked about some texts between him and Casey the next day.  He tried to get her to tell him where Caylee was and why she hadn’t told him she was missing, but got no where.

Cindy Anthony

#21: Cindy Anthony. She is questioned about the wedding she attended with Casey where everyone thought she was pregnant except Cindy.  She gives a description of the Anthony backyard. She stated that Caylee was talking well enough to tell you a story and Cindy could understand what she was saying.

Cindy had a difficult time talking about Caylee, and at one point, when the prosecution had a photo up of her on the monitor, Cindy asked that they remove it so she could keep her composure. Casey cried when her mother was on the stand.

Casey’s tears have changed to a very cold look after the first break while her mother talks about all the excuses she gave her as to why she couldn’t see Caylee after the 16th.  Rather sullen actually.  I guess I would be, too.  Jose is gonna have some s’plainin’ to do!  Oh yeah, I forgot–this was all the truth in Casey’s “dream” world.  She lives in a different dimension….I mean reality, than the rest of the world.

No matter what you think of Cindy Anthony, you are not human if you don’t feel sorry for her today.  I wonder how she will make it through the entire day?

I wonder what Casey was thinking during this break when she said, “It’s not fair.”

Hmmm. It’s not fair that Casey is where she is, and Cindy is FREE to live her life.

I totally agree! Listening to Cindy recount all of the lies that Casey spun is a real eye opener. I really do not want to see Baez tear into her.

off the cuff–Either that, or it’s not fair that her mother is allowed to tell the jury what Casey was really like.

Carole, yes I’m dreading what Jose will try to do to her. Of course, in reality, whatever she has said in the past that he will be able to use against her, is her own fault. I’m hoping the jury is feeling sympathy for her (how could they not?) and Jose will come off as a bad guy.

What would Cindy have to add to Baez’ theory?

offthecuff–cindy has told some tall tales over the years on camera and under oath. I think Cindy is trying to be very truthful right now. The truth may contrast with when she was in “My daughter didn’t do it” mode. I think reality has finally sunk in with her.

Why do you think she stopped looking for Zany 6 weeks ago?

What’s up with a lead in like that?

Is this her way of saying she’s done with protecting Casey, or did she finally see the full light of lies and truth, or did she realize what she’s truly up against in claiming to pursue a nanny?

I guess we’ll have to wait to read her book.

I personally think that may have been when they found out what Jose was planning to do to George at the trial. He must have told them that Casey says Caylee drowned.

Just for once I do agree with Casey, it’s not fair whatsoever what she has put her family through and still is putting them through!
As a Parent both Cindy and George were standing by their Daughter no matter what and
it was irritating say the least to listen to them defending their Daughter through All this!
Today I see Cindy on the Stand trying her Best to tell what happened in that crucial time in June 15, 2008 till that Day she called 911 July 15, 2008!
It doesn’t matter what we think of Cindy or George, they did not deserve what they are going through because of her Daughter Casey!
If I would have any Doubt whatsoever about what Casey is capable of doing, I don’t have any Doubts no more whatsoever!
She might be pretty on the Outside like some People think, but her Behavior and Demeanor
we are seeing now and when this All started makes her very unattractive, not pretty at All!
The Jury is watching and I am sure they will see the true Casey Anthony, she is very transparent.
    Waiting for Justice for Caylee!!!
May George and Cindy and for that Matter Lee have the strength to make it through this Trial, they will need it! JMO

I’m no expert, but if Cindy and George try to stick to the truth as they know it, even if it admits they were trying to cover for Casey, they will feel better for it all. Their sorrow will always be immense, but they will gain public support. And, Oh, how their sorrow must have increased during opening statements when Casey kicked them in the guts.

Baez will try to go along with the lies and state that this is Casey’s coping “make-believe” world, but I think Cindy’s testimony will show that Casey is not just coping, but also conniving destruction, not for self-survival as a victim, but as some sort of monster. She is out to take from and hurt others in her path. I know that some victims in their misery also act out in this way, but so far Casey has been shown as blessed. Tony debunked any molestation.

I agree with you that Cindy is now trying to be completely truthful. The problem is her past pattern of lies. I’m tellin’ ya, Jose has a list of them just like he has a list for George and Lee, and he will try to make her out to be a liar and in some way helping to cover up the fact that George molested their daughter. (Example: You thought Casey’s baby bump was bloating from her period? etc. etc. Isn’t it true, Mrs. Anthony that you were aware of what George was doing to your daughter, but you chose to look the other way, just like you did when Casey was pregnant? Women do that sort of thing all the time, Mrs. Anthony–pretend everything is all right when it isn’t?)

My worst fear is that the jury, supposedly hearing all of this for the first time, will actually be able to find reasonable doubt. It is verrrryyyyy difficult if not impossible to make sense of what Casey Anthony did. A reasonable person could not readily believe that another human being could actually do the things this woman did and there not be some sinister reason behind her behavior (like her father molesting and abusing her to the point she had a split personality or literally lived in a fantasy world)

On the other hand, Baez is a bumbler, and so far he has not proved to be a skilled questioner. He has more often than not, left us scratching our heads trying to figure out what he is asking. His explanation of what happened is shot full of holes and will be next to impossible to prove. Tony Lazzaro did not cooperate with him concerning “the secret” and if his testimony was supposed to be a big part of his theory, he’s screwed.

The prosecution is so far doing a really good job, laying it all out there in a very methodical manner. But, we haven’t heard the defense’s case yet. If they put Casey on the stand, (and I believe they will have to) is she such a good liar that she can convince a jury? She’s a tiny little thing, pretty, and can easily turn on the tears. She made everyone in her life believe her lies about where she worked, she was a good mother, etc. These were people that knew her well. How much easier will it be to convince a jury?

I do believe justice will prevail in the end, but it’s sure nerve-wracking getting to it! lol

I agree with you. The sorrow this family is experiencing is beyond anything I can imagine, and like you, time is not going to diminish their pain. The only thing that can help them through this is God and their belief in Him.

Hey Mystery! I think today was a wonderful day for Justice For ♥Caylee♥! I’m proud of Cindy and George. I think reality has set in and they have finally realized they cannot play Casey’s game anymore. Casey just didn’t seem to take to it too well. Watch her get on the stand now. I don’t think she will do well with her lies anymore. JMHO. This is a frustrating process, but we are learning a great deal about our justice system and human nature. Cindy did have me in tears today and George has too in some of his testimony. I hope they have the strength to endure and stay the course. I’m not too worried about Baez, because he’s made experts out of all of us on things we don’t have degrees in (I’m an expert Florida Bontanist, and BS spotter  ). He seems to help the other side quite a bit when he thinks he’s helping his client.

The A’s have done some things they shouldn’t have, but doing the right thing when it counts the most, counts for much.

I honestly beleive the jury will see through Casey and her lies……It is so obvious she killed that poor baby and that George and Cindey were really the care givers of both Casey and Caylee……George did not sexually nor physically abuse that lier…….how can someone who lies about everything expect everyone to beleive that now what she says is the truth…..PLEASE

  16. May 28, 2011 2:08 pm

I’ve honestly never believed any of Casey’s accusations. I think she’s a liar through and through. What George and Cindy are guilty of (prior to finding out Caylee was gone) is plain and simply spoiling that girl, fixing everything for her and trying to make it right when she did wrong, of course also believing her lies. Neither of them ever hurt her or Caylee. I truly believe that.

Well, Cindy will have the weekend to pray and ready herself for Baez. I’m sure her lawyer will help her out. That is his job.

So far, she has avoided the discrepancy with the pregnancy by stating she just didn’t know. She has also already said her meds were off in those early days. She could say with the 911 call that she was just trying to get answers from Casey by calling the police and making the situation “sound” as dire as possible. After all, the police hadn’t responded yet and were probably taking their non-emergency time. She could claim she is a nurse but not a master of decomp odors. Maybe, she’ll say she cleaned out the car because that’s what she does. And she believed Casey’s nanny-stories because that’s all she felt she could really go on.

Still Baez will probably get annoyed with her lack of answers.

What’s “not fair” Casey Anthony, is to rob a small child of the life she’s entitled to. And then to pin the blame onto others so you can continue to party.

You are right, Niecey, Doing the right thing when it counts the most, accounts for much. However, I will continue to be nervous until the end! As I said, I believe justice will prevail, it’s just nerve wracking—which is a drop in the bucket to what George and Cindy are enduring. I cried with Cindy, today, as well, and came near to it with George. Telling the truth, knowing it could very well condemn your daughter to death–what a nightmare.

Brenda–there in lies the impossibility of the defense’s task. She is such a complete and utter liar, and that is being proved with every witness brought to the stand. How in the world do you get the jury to believe her this time? George molesting Casey is just one more crazy story in Casey’s book of fairy tales.

BUT, you never know what a juror might be thinking. These people don’t know the story as we do. The prosecution’s task seems cut and dried to those who have been following this case. Maybe not to someone hearing it for the first time. I can remember trying to make sense of it all in the beginning, thinking there must be more to this than meets the eye.

I agree. Of course they didn’t hurt Caylee or Casey. I think that comes through loud and clear as they testify. The love they felt for Caylee and still feel for Casey despite what she is trying to do to them is very obvious!

I imagine she was really saying “It’s not fair” that her mother is able to say all these things about her and she can’t respond. I so hope that Miss Casey does get on the stand. I believe the prosecution will rip her to shreds!

    Hi, Mystery!
I know it has been forever. I finally landed the post “getting clean” job that is a permanent position. I am not going to go into it, just saying no matter how long it takes; staying clean will present new opportunities.

    OK, now on to Cindy…
WOW. I had NOTHING but contempt for her until she took the stand. She rose to the challenge in a way I never would of expected in a million years. I will still be very happy when they fade away after LWOP but she gets her props from me on her testimony.
    Peace & Blessings!

So glad to hear from you, Thom. I hope things continue to go well for you!

Cindy can be a loose cannon so I was glad to see the path she chose to walk today. I’m sorry she has to spend the long weekend in agony waiting to be back on the stand Tuesday. The worst of what she will have to testify to is yet to come. The only good part of this is that Casey will have a long weekend to think about what her mother will be saying as well. I imagine we’ll see a lot more tantrums from her next week as the walls continue to close in.

  26. May 28, 2011 4:58 pm

In WFTV’s legal analysis video with Bill Sheaffer, reporter Kathy Belich said the Anthony’s attorney told her 6 weeks ago of the defense’s plan. Poor George and Cindy – I can only imagine how hard reality must’ve come crashing down on them that day. 😦

No parent ever wants to believe their kid is lying or has done something wrong. Casey’s tale of a kidnapping was probably George and Cindy’s ONLY shred of HOPE for a long time, I guess – Then the smell of a pizza box – In distraught grandparents’ minds, probably easier to believe that – or any lie — than to face the image of Casey wrapping Caylee’s head in duct tape, sticking a heart on her mouth, and disposing of her like a broken toy. 😦

I can’t even begin to imagine what I’d have believed were I in their shoes. The damage Casey has done to her family – and I can’t help but think of their facial expressions throughout the trial- even Lee’s fiance’s tears – Casey’s lies have shattered their world. Will any of them ever fully recover from this? 😦

What I can’t understand: How Jose Baez thinks that being a victim of sexual abuse justifies being a liar. Most survivors tend to strive even _harder_ in life for what is just, proper, and true. Jose has clearly (Crystal!) packed his bags and moved in to Casey’s fantasy world!

Drs say that serial killers learn with each murder, and I can’t help but wonder that Casey must’ve learned over the years which lies worked and which she needed to perfect or spin wilder to control all of the people in her life. Did anyone else notice the RAGE in Casey’s face today? Like a spoiled child, lashing out at parents who fail to meet her demands.

This weekend, I’m counting my Blessings.. and going to pray for God to give the Anthony family strength and keep them calm as Jose continues to tear into them on cross examination. Lee still has to take the stand too, doesn’t he? I pray they all continue to stick to the truth – they’ll see these weapons formed against them won’t prosper if so.. ( Is 54:17)

Have a great holiday weekend, Mystery and everyone…

When Cindy said she stopped looking for Zanny 6 weeks ago, whether it was true or not, what a sad day that must have been when they realized that their own daughter was going to try and put the blame on George. No matter what we think of this family and the lengths they have gone to in order to save their child, there’s no way you can’t feel empathy for them today.

I’m counting my blessings this weekend, too. It’s stories like this one, that really makes you grateful for what you have.

There is nothing that Cindy has testified to so far that is different than statements she gave LE.
So far, Cindy has only conceded to Casey’s lie about being in Jacksonville. She hasn’t conceded that all these people or her job were fictitious. I don’t see how any of this would then bother Casey to have exposed.

Before, Cindy tried to explain away the lies…like the nanny was a code word for any particular friend watching Caylee at the time. Or She didn’t want me to worry. She couldn’t tell me where Caylee was because she would be putting Caylee in harm’s way…etc.

But in this questioning so far, she’s only revealing the conversations.

I think Casey was so angry not only because her mother was not going along with the program (perhaps Jose had told her that she would)

But she’s also angry that Cindy could tell her side and make herself sound like she was such a nice mother and grandmother. “Casey is old enough to make her own plans…I’m just the grandmother.” However, the story was probably more like “Casey, you’re so irresponsible. You know you can’t take care of Caylee all the time on your own. She needs her own bed…”

You are right. Cindy is pretty much sticking to just the facts. No commentary (which I’m sure she has been coached not to do by her attorney.) Perhaps she will save the excuses for the penalty phase if she is allowed to speak.

I believe Casey was absolutely angry that her mother was sticking just to the facts. Saturday was a completely new world for Casey–her mother has decided to no longer be her chief Keeper of the Mop. (to clean up her messes) Must’ve been a shocker for her.

Cindy had me crying all over myself today. For the first time, I saw and felt her pain. I know she loved Caylee dearly and would have never hurt that child. I saw for the first time a broken woman that wanted to believe her daughter, but in the end found out that she really did kill Caylee. It is as if she is finally able to grieve for her granddaughter.

I cried, too. It was very painful to watch. My thoughts at the time was that she was in the throes of grief. I think Cindy had managed to compartmentalize her grief for Caylee by making Casey her main focus. That’s not the case now it seems.

I watched Cindy a second time and agree that she is now humbled and is telling the truth. She is now not willing to lose George, Lee and possibly Mallory for her lying daughter. Life in prison for George if he would get convicted on the sexual abuse charge…Casey just threw it out there…but the consequences for an accusation like that are severe in Florida. Cindy is doing the right thing for many reasons and it’s about time. I am sure they do not want to leave Florida because of the parents living there and such, and I bet they are sick of the public perception of them. They want to make the rigth moves now to avoid charges and want to gain respect again in the public eye. Casey is a piece of work…she hurt many people and needs to be found guilty of the most severe charge against her.

Baez better take it easy with Cindy on Tuesday. The jury will not take well to the fact that he is badgering a grieving grandmother. They are already chewing on the drowning in the pool theory which GA is accused of…and the disposal of her will be too much for the jury to deal with and they will reject this utter nonsense. The DT looked baffled and pale while Cindy was speaking and I felt great satisfaction when Casey had her self serving breakdown

I’m thinking the defense wasn’t sure what Cindy was going to do. (who could be sure of Cindy?) Judging from Casey’s tantrum, she obviously thought her mother might help her throw her dad under the bus. No such luck, Casey. Cindy and George have realized the gravity of the charges being hurled at him.

  30. May 29, 2011 1:45 am

WHY – IF -SHE already knew, days before of coarse that CAYLEE Anthony was dead. and GEORGE, she claimed already knew about the death, that CASEY asked to use a shovel from the neighbor nest door that she barely know or ever spoke, that she needed a shovel from him to “DIG UP BAMBOO RODS IN THE BACKYARD SO CAYLEE Anthony WOULD NOT STEP ON THE BAMBOO RODS” for her excuse of why she needed the shovel. If this question is asked anywhere in the case,

My thought is that Casey had put Caylee somewhere in the backyard (hence the dogs picking up a scent) and needed the shovel to remove whatever she used to cover Caylee. I do not for a minute believe George knew the truth and helped her cover it up.
