who I am
What I am in real life is a gift market and greeting card designer. A “designing whore” is the term I use for myself because it’s been 15 years since I’ve actually created a piece of art just for me. I live and breathe the trends and fads of the moment and create artwork on paper that an art director translates into all sorts of things from dishes, to candles, to plaques, to textiles, to–well you get the picture–I design for money!
What I’ve always REALLY wanted to do was write a book. Journalism was the first thing I majored in at college. I’ve wanted to be a writer ever since I can remember, but I’ve always managed to find an excuse not to do it. A few months ago, on a lark, I took an online writing workshop to try and kick-start myself. At the end of the 6 week course we had to have 500 words written for a novel, short story, etc. Well, I loved the course, loved the writing assignments, and wrote my 500 words. The class ended, and of course I haven’t written a thing since! So–here I am with my first blog, hoping that it will force me to continue writing. I’m going to post my 500 words and I’m going to add to it every day until it turns into a book. I’m going to pretend I’m writing for an audience and hopefully hone my skills to the point that the next book will be good enough to publish! So, good luck to myself, and here I go!
