Brad Conway resigns as George and Cindy Anthony’s attorney

August 16, 2010

Brad Conway announced today that he is resigning as George and Cindy Anthony’s attorney because of a defense motion filed last week by Casey Anthony’s team in a dispute with Texas Equusearch.

In the filing, Jose Baez, Casey Anthony’s lead attorney, claims Conway was given unrestricted access to review thousands of pages of volunteer documents while the defense has not been given equal access.

Mark Nejame says this never happened when he was interviewed by Channel 13 News last week, saying:

“They never even bothered calling him. They never even bothered checking in with him. If they did and they had done their homework properly and they’d done their due diligence, which they should have done, they would know there’s absolutely no truth in the fact that any consideration was giving whatsoever for Mr. Conway coming in on behalf of his clients coming in to look at those documents,” NeJame said last week.

Conway released  the following statement :

“With regret, I am forced to resign as George and Cindy Anthony’s attorney. The defense motion filed on Aug. 9, 2010, contains allegations that are not, in fact, true. As an officer of the court, I cannot stand idly by knowing allegations involving me have been misstated. I am now a witness to an inaccurate legal pleading filed in our court system. As such, I cannot continue in good conscience as a legal representative. George and Cindy Anthony have done nothing improper, it is the failure of the defense to verify the facts alleged in their motion that forces my withdrawal. I will continue to support the Anthonys, will continue to attend hearings and the eventual trial, and most importantly, I will continue to search for the full truth regarding the killing of Caylee Marie Anthony.”

Mr. Conway said on the Today show this morning,

“I was given the same conditions everyone else was, and that is: I was allowed to review the documents, make tabs on the relevant files. I was not allowed to copy, photograph, remove or any other way alter the documents.”

TODAY SHOW VIDEO OF BRAD CONWAY LINK

This all means that if If  Judge Perry holds a hearing to settle the dispute between the defense and Equusearch attorney Mark NeJame, Conway could possibly be called as a witness. Conway says he can’t represent anyone involved in the case if he were to be called as a witness.

Brad Conway has been the Anthonys’ attorney for almost 2 years. (lots longer than anyone else has stuck by them.)

This doesn’t really make sense to me. Is there more to Conway’s resignation than meets the eye? Are they setting the stage to say Casey’s attorney, Jose Baez,  was not competent to represent Miss Casey? Watch the Today show interview linked above.

LOOK A BLOGGER WAS WITH TEH ANTHONYS ON THE SAME AIRPLAN!!!!!!

I wrote this in an older section but yesterday, I actually sat on the plane from La guardia NY to Orlando right behind the Anthony’s. I knew they were in NY to do the Today show interviews. Since we were sitting in first class (NBC paid for their trip, obviously), I was able to watch people boarding the plane. As people would walk on board, they would obviously notice the Anthony’s. There were no smiles, hello’s, autographs or anything else Cindy would want us to believe. What I did see in the faces of passengers was anger, looking them up and down and clearly, no support. I actually felt bad for a moment until I remembered all the lies and non sense they are talking. Cindy knows full well Casey murdered Caylee and everytime she opens her mouth, another idiotic lie flows out. Now she says Caylee is alive and Casey will work for the foundation?

I don’t think so. She is beyond dillusional. During the 2 plus hour flight, they were very few words exchanged between the two of them. You could clearly see the tension and I would bet once this is all over, George will grow a set and leave her madness. I too, am angered they continue to take trips first class with driver’s picking them up at the airport,

    Interesting!!

    here new from hal!

Casey Anthony’s attorney Jose Baez dismissed Brad Conway’s allegations as a sideshow.

But the sideshow was at the top of newscasts tonight.

“I’m not necessarily concerned with the sideshows, and I think that’s possibly the best way you can describe this overall incident,” Baez said at a news conference this afternoon.

Conway on NBC’s “Today” this morning alleged that Baez had filed misleading pleadings about Conway’s dealings with Texas EquuSearch. Conway cited that reason in announcing he was withdrawing from representing George and Cindy Anthony, the parents of Casey Anthony.

Yet WESH-Ch. 2’s Bob Kealing reported that defense attorney Cheney Mason said Casey Anthony’s team and EquuSearch had reached a settlement over reviewing the volunteer group’s records. “The issues that Brad Conway brought up are moot in his [Mason’s] words,” Kealing reported.

WFTV-Ch. 9’s Kathi Belich said EquuSearch and the defense worked out a deal — during a private meeting this morning with Judge Belvin Perry — clearing the way for the defense to have greater access to defense records.

There will be an Aug. 30 status hearing in the case, and Casey Anthony is not required to be there, WFTV anchor Martie Salt said.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. Anthony and Baez are shown last month in this photo by Red Huber of the Sentinel.

And I repeat the question–Why did Brad REALLY quit???

Hi Mystery, how are you my Friend? I have a feeling this is about to get ugly! Conway’s departure speaks volumes in my opinion. Conway said, “….I will continue to search for the full truth regarding the killing of Caylee Marie Anthony.” hmmmm so I guess Conway is saying Caylee was killed and not still alive like Cindy keeps saying and that the forensics don’t add up to little Caylee being dead. Give me a break! I wonder if Conway didn’t want to drink the KC and Cindy koolaid anymore! lol Why is Brad saying he will continue to search for the truth if his job was to represent the liars of Cindy and George? I think it is probably the only time that Conway has even given precious Caylee the consideration she deserves when all the while it’s been about his stupid ranting about the Anthony’s. My, my Conway, Bozo turned on you but what did you expect when you kept spitting in the wind.

    JUSTICE FOR CAYLEE!!!

“We’re trying to save a human life here … I’ve said from the beginning that I’m going to get access to those documents and I’m not going to stop until I do,” Baez said. “Bottom line is we want to know what happened out there.”

Yet, they grin like a couple of canary-eating cats… I guess this is a defense… victory?

  25. August 16, 2010 6:42 pm

It seems to me that if Brad needed to straighten out Baez (and the court) on whether he and the Anthony’s got special treatment, he could stand up and make a statement in court. He could file a motion or even send the judge a letter. His reason for quitting makes no sense, as have many (most) of his statements.

    Idea one:
Basically the Anthony’s, Brad and Bozo are all working towards the same goal, have Casey found innocent. It would be more likely that Cindy went off the deep end on Bozo and feels he is not going to free Casey. Over that, Brad and Cindy get into a disagreement and you knows who wins. Brad tries to back down gracefully by concocting a story no one now believes.

Idea two: Everyone needs to work to make money. Even a bank robber considers it work to rob a bank. There are two people who don’t need to work but have a small income from lying on TV. Unfortunately it will not keep paying the bills for George and Cindy. Brad needs income to pay his bills and he gets little to nothing from the Ants, maybe a license fee here and there from also lying on TV. Brads time is, I am sure taken up mostly by Cindy allowing him very little time to do other legal cases. So my second guess is that Conway was going down the broke road for the second time and had to get out and work for money.

    Idea three:
Cindy and George wanted to or are doing some monkey business with the Caylee foundation and Brad wants no part of it. Like have the media put the license fees into the foundation so the Ants can draw a tax-free income running it. Or they are trying to hide income to avoid taxes. Lets see, if Cindy is on disability then she cannot work or receive money as income. Oh, Oh did I just open a can of worms? The disability is not enough to pay all the bills, so how do they pay for house, car, electric, water, etc??? If it is with the fees gained from being on TV then the state should be stopping her disability, she has a job!

Well, take your pick or none of the above and add your own ideas, my brain is on overload. Hmmmm, now where do you complain to the state about someone collecting money fraudulently?

    Hi John

I think Brad was probably looking for a way out in a big way. Otherwise he wouldn’t have used such a flimsy excuse to make his exit. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out all 3 of your reasons had a little bit to do with why he wants out. I can’t imagine he has worked with the Anthonys’ all this time without knowing more than he should. I also find it hard to believe he has worked with the Anthonys’ all this time with no conflicts between him and Cindy. It tells me he was not exactly an up and up kind of guy before he hooked up with them. How else could he have stayed this long and kept his mouth shut? Somethin’ had to be rotten in Denmark to begin with.

As to why did Brad really quit?

OK, I am stuck on this analysis thing and it’s got me looking at words. This bit isn’t statement analysis, it’s just logical thinking with a dictionary.

Boil all the statements down and just like Mystery said, the claim by Jose is that Brad resigned because of a moot point.

    Interestingly, the definition of moot:
    1
    –adjective
    1.
open to discussion or debate; debatable; doubtful: a moot point.
    2.
of little or no practical value or meaning; purely academic.
    3.
Chiefly Law. not actual; theoretical; hypothetical.

So, Brad quit over a moot point = The reason (point) Brad quit over is (def 1) debatable.

Conclusion, Brad told us nothing, Jose told us nothing.

See, that helped a lot, didn’t it? 🙂

    Spacely,

Statement Analysis has affected me the same way! 😆 I find myself looking closely at sentence structure and how words are used.

I have always thought of the word “moot” as meaning “dead in the water”, “no longer valid.” But, by giving the word “moot” the definition of “debatable”, then Jose’s “moot” point definitely changes the texture of this whole thing. I absolutely believe there are other reasons why Brad has quit: Money, personality clashes with the Anthonys’, moral clashes with the Anthonys, illegal activity on his part, or possibly to further a plan to rend Baez’ incompetent down the road is still a mystery, but I have no doubt, given the players involved, that that mystery will be solved long before Casey Anthony goes to trial!

  36. offthecuff permalink

Conway is a softy. He comes across as a really nice guy, supporting the Anthonys in their grief..etc, but also a softy in that he has supported the Anthonys lies, lying for them at times and other times trying to sound so nebulous or neutral that he comes off as a pushover.

When he promised to attend future events and continue supporting them, he was just bowing out nicely…to ensure that his leaving didn’t have anything to do with some sort of rift between them.

  37. Spacely permalink
    August 17, 2010 9:48 am

I always thought “moot” meant what you did, too!

That’s what inspired me to make the post – the fact the real definition is not what I have always assumed when I used the phrase “moot point”.

It makes you wonder what Baez thinks it means…

I certainly agree that there are underlying issues for the reason brad left the ant’s.

spacely got it right. brad & jose told us nothing. just a lot of talk & tv time. do any of them really think that all of their comments & appearances & bringing out absurd or nonexistent “bombshells” is going to divert the focus from casey when it gets to court? They are just wasting their time now. It also seems to me that “someone” is trying to keep media attention on this case by manufacturing mountains from molehills (or no molehills at all). hmmmmm, gee, i wonder who & why anyone would do that. knight owl (Aug 17 10:26am) NeJame stated that he let Brad Conway look at the records because he considered it to be “the decent thing to do.” Apparently he felt that by letting the Anthonys’ attorney see what the records revealed (which was nothing) it might remove some of their doubts as to when Caylee’s body was placed in the woods. Did the Anthonys have any business being privy to the TES info? No, not IMO. It just gave them another way to twist the truth.

I can’t answer for Sharma, of course, but the Anthonys’ publicly turned against Tim Miller because they wanted him searching for a live Caylee period. Did they know Caylee was dead at that time? Good question. IMO, they knew in their hearts when they smelled death in the car and Cindy scrubbed it down. I’m not sure I believe they knew Caylee was in the woods when Tim was searching the area, but I think they may have known she was dead. Again, JMO

    Hi niecey!

They say things happen for a purpose and that good always comes from bad. Let’s hope that’s the case with Caylee’s death and that she didn’t die in vain.

Good Evening Mystery and Everyone……The question was asked as to why Mr Conway bowed out….Well here is the answer….Cynthia M Anthony….talks too much and doesn’t listen to reason, the truth or directives. IMO

No problem. I listened to it this morning and this man very articulately voiced what so many Americans feel-FURIOUS! The majority of Americans don’t want this mosque anywhere near Ground Zero. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand the true purpose of this “monument” (that’s what it really is) and I’m continually amazed and confused by the individuals elected BY THE PEOPLE to their offices whose salaries THE AMERICAN PEOPLE pay (and allow them all to live high on the hog I might add) who believe they have the right to impose their own twisted beliefs on US who elected them as opposed to doing the bidding of US who elected them! It doesn’t matter whether they THINK they know better than us what we should do. Their personal beliefs DO NOT MATTER and if they can’t deal with that they should never have run on the premise “for the people by the people.”

This has nothing to do with religious freedom and tolerance! If you are naive enough to think it does, try building a Christian church and Jewish Synagogue on either side of this mosque and see what happens.

There’s one way to insure that we have people in office that aren’t afraid to be politically “uncorrect”, and that’s to get off your butts and VOTE! One small voice joined with many other small voices make one big voice that cannot be ignored!

I wonder if after Cindy got up on the stand and on national TV and said she believes Caylee is still alive that Conway said YIKES she will say anything even under oath I cant be apart of this, and searched for some excuse to get out from under the Anthonys. I know if you are repesenting a defendant and you know they are going to lie on the stand you cant let them go there, Im wondering if the same applies to a witness?

Rima Fakih, 24, the daughter of Lebanese immigrants and a Muslim, criticised the location of the planned £70 million Islamic Cultural Center planned just two blocks away from Ground Zero.
‘It shouldn’t be so close to the World Trade Center,’ Fakih, 24, told Inside Edition during a break from the Miss Universe pageant preparations in Las Vegas.

‘We should be more concerned with the tragedy than religion.’
After wading into the highly-charged political issue, the Michigan-born Fakih then went on to support President Obama’s statement on the constitutional rights of religious freedom.
‘I totally agree with President Obama with (that) statement,’ said Fakih.
Meanwhile growing number of New York construction workers are vowing not to work on the mosque planned near Ground Zero, according to the New York Daily News.

‘It’s a very touchy thing because they want to do this on sacred ground,’ said Dave Kaiser, 38, a blaster who is working to rebuild the World Trade Center site.

The grass-roots movement is gaining momentum on the Internet, says the Daily News. One construction worker created the Hard Hat Pledge on his blog and asked others to vow not to work on the project if it stays in its current location.

‘Thousands of people are signing up from all over the country,’ said creator Andy Sullivan, a construction worker from Brooklyn.

‘People who sell glass, steel, lumber, insurance. They are all refusing to do work if they build there.

‘Hopefully, this will be a tool to get them to move it,’ he said. ‘I got a problem with this ostentatious building looming over Ground Zero.’

L.V. Spina, a Manhattan construction worker who created anti-mosque stickers that some workers are slapping on their hardhats, told the New York Daily News he would ‘rather pick cans and bottles out of trash cans’ than build the Islamic center near Ground Zero

Hi Mystery! Seems interesting to say the least! The one attorney they found to lie for them, had to leave the Celebrities! It is due time that he got some common sense and left!
I am wondering if they will get anyone to take on their lies, and lie for them.
I also wonder if Brad will be hired by anyone! He doesn’t have the best reputation with people!

    Lona, Lona, Lona

If the GOP’s position is to “spread democracy and freedom” to emulate “the best country in the world” as they say —- and the only thing the base and the party consistently exhibits is bigotry like shots heard ’round the world — what’s next?

Will the rest of the world emulate America by installing sanctions against us? Shut off the oil flow to America — and of course pre-emptive strikes could be emulated since it is the US that armed them with the abilities to do so. You want them to emulate the US, there’s where they can start.

Think of how that plays into the hands of our enemies. They are reporting: “The Americans tell you that `we respect all religions’, but look at their actions.”

Muslims across the world are watching Americans being told that they cannot have mosques where American law says that they have a right to have a mosque.

    Giant font headlines lead into:

” It is all an American lie, for they truly hate you” but hey, yet for some odd reason they don’t hate our oil, loans and cash flow.

The Confederate Cat Food Coalition shoving their flag pins up the arses of the world citizenry so hates this country that they are eager to create many more enemies and further souring the view of America held by a billion people, all so that they can gain some illusory short-term political benefit to destroy what they didn’t destroy the last time ’round.

The Confederate party’s xenophobia is playing out on a world stage – their headlines and air time are devoted to exposing the BIG LIE that is America.

We will reap a bitter harvest from what the politicians of the Confederacy are sowing today.

    You can bet on it.

15 of 19 9/11 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia yet you didn’t bomb them nor did you demand the Saudi Prince stop financing and paying salaries at FOX News.

A building is “sacred” but our companies are not?

The hypocrisy is not being lost on billions of the world citizens.

A Saudi Prince finances FOX news?

Let me get this part straight. The religious extremists around the world are focusing so intently on this mosque as a symbol of their victory in New York that any attempt on the part of any segment of the American populace (despite that in any free society, there will always be demonstrations about everything) to block the construction will be the reason that will foment their hatred for us? Not our presence in Iraq or Afghanistan where we are actually walloping them in a bullet right up their Islamic extremist terrorist butt fashion?

American policy is not and will not be dictated by fear. We do not fear the terrorists. We do not fear the Islamic extremists. No one will silence us. We will protest whatever we wish to protest. Why do we care what Islamic extremists think about us or the countries which harbor them? They are our enemies. Not because we made them our enemies. They chose to be our enemies. They attacked us. There can be no justification for 9/11.

  81. October 16, 2010 6:24 pm

Hello Everyone! Mystery, I see that Lona’s passion kind of got this thread off topic a bit, but I applaud Spacely’s last comment! I truly don’t know how this related to Brad Conway, but I am giving a standing ovation to what Spacely said. I do agree with you completely and if everyone would VOTE, and be informed about who they are voting for, it would solve so much of this.

Now, back on topic, I do think that Brad jumped ship, for reasons that are more than what he said, just as I believe Andrea Lyon did. I think when this case plays out in court, we may be surprised at some of what comes to light. JMHO.

    PS
    We miss you.
